I created a VTF and vmt and put them into a signs folder. Everything seemed to be going ok.

I used the Overlay tool in to put poster in my map and it looked perfect in the sdk.

However when i compiled (fast mode) and was in the game it looked like this:

It seems to load fine, just with no picture.
I then closed the game and tried to compile in normal mode. This crashed sdk (which I forgot it did that (Its been doing this for ages now)) and now when i load the poster sdk it looks like this, even though, before it looked fine.

When i load the vtf in vtfedit it looks like this:

Anybody know whats wrong? Also, anyone encountered sdk closing instantly once you try to compile in any mode except fast?

Thanks in advance, sorry for my first posting being a question, this forum looks great so far!

You need lights, that's all. Overlays render black in fullbright maps (because they don't obey the same lighting rules I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong). Just add your lighting entities and try again. As for the purple checks after SDK crashed, I'm not sure. check that the texture is still in the texture browser. If it is, delete the overlay and re-place it, if not, check/re-place the files in the folder.

If you have no lights in your level, all overlays will be black.
