    Hey all. This is the first time I've shown this map outside of the community I run, and frankly I am somewhat intimidated posting screenshots of it here as I think it pales in comparison with most of the maps here. But, what the hell.

    The map is called CTF_Subway. The central idea of it is two subway cars that move back and forth between the bases, providing quick transport to the enemy base. An alternate path in the form of an underground ventilation system running underneath the tunnel is also available for those unfortunate enough to miss the train. Or, just run down the tunnel. But don't get run down :)

    I've been working on the map for a total of about five days and have run it through numerous alphas and betas on our server and I think it's reached a fine balance in its gameplay style. The final betas I am putting out now are mainly detail increases and optimization fixes, minor tweaks, etcetera, but I think it is finally ready to show off. I'm not going to show any of the train cars at this time because they're ugly as sin, the next beta will have a custom train car model implemented.

    Wow, looks quite interesting Waxx! I wouldn't worry too much about getting overshadowed by some of the other mappers' works; I came here with the same expectations but was glad to see the community is well and truly open to newcomers :)

    So onto the map...Without a diagram I'm terrible at visualizing layouts so I'll skip right over that. From what I can see in the screenshots my only gripes are purely aesthetic. Yellow dingy light fits the theme but may need brightening up a bit later on, super shiny floors, that kind of thing. Any idea when you'll drop a beta on us? I'd love to have another Waxx map on my server alongside Bridgetoofar (it gets the most play time of any map I think).

    Well that's my inexperienced input, I'll hand you over to the gurus I guess :p

    Wow I didn't know anyone else hosted Bridgetoofar. I kind of got lazy and stopped working on it.

    As far as the floors go it seems to be a personal taste, I like them but I know other people who don't. Have to tinker with it some I guess.

    Edit: This should help you visualize the layout. It doesn't have the vents in it though.

    I really like the intel rooms. I am one who does not like those floor textures. They are used in Station as well, and its just not my thing.

    The map looks great. The only question I have left is how well does it play. Lots of maps these days look really nice, but the gameplay is only so-so. Hopefully I will get a chance to play it soon.

    I fraps'd some gameplay action in the vent areas, which open out to the hallway above the platform opposite the enemy spawn.

    the video is from beta 1, IIRC. beta 3 has some better lighting and wooden ramps leading into the vents. I think the gameplay is excellent. It affords action to all classes (even sniper...notice that loooong tunnel).

    I really would say youtube plz, although im waiting to get it streamed now.

    EDIT: Dammit its DARK :eek:, brighten it up a bit, lantarns, cracks in the ceiling, self illuminating stuff in the walls (chrystals? :D)
    Also the vents are weird. What are they doing in the rocks? :/

    It really isn't as dark as it seems. You won't have trouble seeing anything, if you are worried.

    As for the vid, I did it mainly as a test for my new monitor res. But I gave up on youtubes inferior quality many months ago. :|

    The vents are still very ugly. Today I am going to have a look at making them not so shitty.

    Re: Bridgetoofar, I forget where I picked it up, but I got so many requests for it I ended up putting it on my server. It's likely the most popular map on there, which is saying something considering I revise the mapcycle weekly to keep only the best and most fun ones up.

    Re: Subway, I like the layout diagram. Seems solid, looking forward to seeing the train car action myself. I'd love to throw this on my server and take it for a spin...what's the ETA on a public release? (Yes I could nab it from your server but I'd rather ask permission for this one)

    If you really want to run a beta of it you can, but you'll have to put up with really ugly train cars :)
