Hello, this is my first attempt at making a real tf2 map, and I'm relatively pleased with what I have so far. It's a ctf map that has a fair amount of open space that I hope will give it a sort of free feel. The major problem I've run into is trying to set up the flag room, so far I only have 1 entrance, but I think it could benefit from another. The problem is I'm not sure where to put it. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated, especially on how to improve gameplay as I'm not really focusing on aesthetics yet. -Sincerely, a no0b at map making
By looking into the pictures and reading what you wrote I came to conclusion. The maps is flat(no height variation), too open and only one road to flag is not a good idea. But not bad for a first map. Keep it up and test the map.
It looks like it is a bit to dark. I cannot wait to see this map. Also, if you would use dropbox for your next maps, that would be nice.
9/10. Very good pun that I almost missed Well, I may as well say something helpful. If you want to take better screenshots of your map, without the hud for instance, check this thread out: Le here
Thanks a lot for all the feedback. I'll be sure to try to incorporate everyone's advice. I actually do have a few different "levels" to the map. (There is an upper and lower section and a ramp that connects them.) That being said I haven't done any displacement yet, perhaps that is what you are referring to? As for the intel room, do you think it would help if I added another entrance next to the cave?
Yes. Having an intel room with only one way in is generally a really bad idea. I would suggest a vent(or cave) that goes through the roof.
Just FYI there's already a cp_crossroads. Since names in TF2 maps stay the same while the prefix changes (eg, ctf_sawmill, koth_sawmill, etc), this could cause confusion. In fact, that's why I even bothered to check the thread so early in development -- I thought this was the CTF version of that other map.
That's taken too. Try searching the forums and/or Google with any ideas you have to see if they're available.
