Converting a custom cubemap from Portal 2?

You may already be familiar with the way shiny tiles in Portal 2 work: They're set to reflect a custom cubemap — /metal/black_wall_envmap_002a.vtf — instead of a real one placed in the map, creating a uniform sheen that can almost be mistaken for phong shading.

And I want to play with it in TF2.

So here's the question: Is there an easy way to convert a texture that's in 7.5 format into 7.2 so I can use it in TF2? Failing that, is there anything I should know about the differences before I try manually rebuilding a 7.2-compatible copy?
