compiling taking waayy too long

    When I compile my map on normal and it gets to "PortalFlow" it literally take 10 hours+ for it to compile. When i put the compile speed on fast it finishes in less than 20 seconds. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my map?

    You're visleaf calcuations are ridiculous, thus the long time.


    You want to go and func_detail small brushes, weird angled ones, etc. (then check the map for leaks).
    Also, micro brushes and invalid solids will cause this.

    I have an extremely large surface of squares. It has a a lot of holes in it so should i ungroup it?

    ... did you carve? or use hollow? or no?

    I did carve but not hollow.. and I have a huge sky box for a space texture I have.

    Also don't carve, as it can literally destroy your entire map. This is not in any way an joke or exaggeration.

    Read the link I posted thoroughly. You aren't going to get very far if you don't learn at the very least some basic optimization techniques.

    I made it into a prefab then copied in a separate map, ungrouped it, and compile and it took LES THAN 10 SECONDS!! :))
