Curiosity question, did anyone follow the link to find out what the site is about or is everyone just talking about the sign?

If that same picture were advertising a movie, it probably wouldn't have made news on this site. It's like religion has almost become taboo in our society dominated by the individual.

I'm not saying I support the sign, or any billboards. Just think about why is this sign disturbing. Yeah it's about Christianity while showing a kid holding a gun, but how many adverts for movies or games (big part of our culture) do you see without guns or violence of some kind?

There have been a lot of things done and said in the name of Christianity that had nothing to do with Christ's teachings.

Calling that billboard Christian is just a little bit insulting.

And yet there are many people who subscribe to that train of thought who call themselves Christians. Or are the only true Christians the ones who are politically correct in a certain time frame?

I believe it should be evident by what I wrote that the label of "Christian" should apply to things that follow Christ's teachings.

The video is a nice parody of the majority of Americans that claim to be Christian, but is says nothing at all of what's actually taught in the Bible. It's a good joke, but I hope you're not posting it thinking it's a serious criticism of religion.

I'm not. I just posted it both to point out exactly that which you said, that most Americans follow as christians. And to show that many times the term christian is up for grabs for any kind of followers of the bible.

most Christians really have no connection to how the bible portrays the man Jesus Christ.

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

This a thousand times. I'm sure there are plenty of racists (for example) who think of themselves as good Christians even though Christ taught acceptance.

Idiots who put up billboards like that are the kind of people who give Christians a bad name.

Christianity and by orientation it's sub categories is the only religion that believes in a Devil that will burn you in hell for not believing in their messiah/god.

Also, Jehovah's witnesses believe there are only 144,000 places in Heaven. Yet they have over 7 million desciples. Imagine claiming to have come back and telling them Heavon's already full.

Amusements aside. This is a typical christian advertisement. I realise not every christian advertisement is like this, particular for local parishes. But the fact that the religion advertises itself at all says something about it that just doesn't sit well with me. It's like they're trying to convince themselves they're not wasting their time and are jealous of everyone else living their dreams, whilst they're waiting to die to forfill theirs in an unproven heaven (unless you take the bible as proof).

Advertising your religion doesn't bug me, as long as it's in an appropriate place. That sign goes beyond advertising Christianity, or even saying Atheists are bad people. It implies that you can't trust anyone around you that doesn't subscribe to their beliefs.

Religious banter should be banned from all forums. Only leads to back and forth BS. But you asked for it. ;)

I am Atheist by nature, tho I cannot claim to be all knowing, so... I dunno. People tend label me "Agnostic" by this thought process. Whatever. I only acknowledge that
I am an ignorant being, seeking enlightenment in a world of lies. However, I am very cautious to "believe" in the words perpetrated by men, claiming to be disciples of a "God".

I have more "faith" in science than I do in a book (insert any religious text here) written by those with the money and power to have an education to persuade the ignorant masses 2000 years ago. If this makes me a blasphemer, then so be it. Obviously, "God" has failed to make the significance of his so called "word" apparent to me in that way. Or whatever lame argument the sheeple can come up with.

We all want to believe that we are immortal in some way and religion offers a fairy tale that can convince the simple minded into believing so. Its really sad to me that the major influence of all our cultures on Earth is controlled by what is merely an abuse of our primordial desire to survive. Add some rules to that "promise" of survival and you have control. Fading to nothingness when I die even scares the crap out of me, but at least I can accept it as a possibility.

Granted, religion serves its purpose. I'd rather the people ignorant enough to believe in this folly follow a rule of order than to blindly run amok in anarchy and make my life more miserable. In that manner, religion serves a decent purpose. But you won't see me giving 10%.

However, as we have witnessed though history and current events, these beliefs are easily warped in such a way that those in power can create zealots for a non-existent cause to further their personal or political agendas. (See, suicide bombers believing they will have virgins awaiting them in heaven).

And if you find my words offensive, then don't worry. I'm going to "hell" either way.

Well, you see this is always what i have thought. If god makes himself known to one man who's usually poor, drunk and/or on drugs.. then expects the rest of civilisation to believe in an almighty entity because this funky dude says so. He's kinda going about being known the wrong way don't you think? For an infinitely intelligent being (that even created us in the first place) he made a pretty silly move and fails to understand us as a culture. Which is rather ironic, really.

I always thought if god wanted me to believe in him then he would make it so by showing himself to me, in one form or another. Not cloak and dagger crap which gets inerpreted differently by every individual. Plus, all this "It's simply a test of faith" is crap for "i have no idea why he hasn't but you should do as i say regardless".

Someone else put it; If god is all powerful and all knowing. Why would he care what i thought?

    An interesting read: http://brotherpeacemaker.wordpress.com/2007/06/25/god-knows-when-the-sparrow-died/

    LoL

i believe that god doesn't exist if you think about it.

god really never helped people religion is made up by people just like time was.

religion is just something to give people hope and something to be afraid of.

in the middle ages Demons and Angels where feared but now it's aliens

it's just the time period where in, and people claiming they where abducted is not true it has to do with the electromagnetic waves that come from the sun. some people are sensitive to these waves the other people and experience it as a fear.

this can also cause a death like pain it just depends on how sensitive you are against these waves.

LoL i watch too much TV
