can't watch demo of my map

i wanted to view the demo of my map in tf2 but all it says is that it couldn't open it.
is there a way to fix it.
NOTE: for some reasen is it a VLC player. i don't know why or how it happenend but it is a VLC thing.

How are you trying to open it? In the Windows explorer or in TF2 itself?

The usual way to go about opening a demo is typing demoui or demoui2 in the TF2 console and then loading a file from the window that pops up.

A demo isn't a video file. VLC has no chance of playing it back, fix your file associations.

You put the .dem file (unzip it if it is compressed) into your /tf/ folder (same folder where you see /maps, /custom, /scripts, /materials, etc), then go to your game's console and start typing "playdemo <filename>" where <filename> is the name of the demo file. The game will help you autocomplete this if you type in enough of the filename. E.g. "playdemo mvm_mannhattan_advanced1_asdf" (or use the demoui/demoui2 commands to open the file).
