Broken reflections

    On any map, doesn't matter how many cubemaps it has, or what gamemode it is, my reflections are always broken. I just have a huge, pink and purple checkerboard reflected off. Any help?

    Make sure you use the buildcubemaps command in console once your map has compiled, I also recommend setting mat_specular to 0 to stop any pink squares showing up in the reflections.

    If your not already, try using compilepal as this will build cubemaps automatically provided you have it selected in the compile options

    If this still isn't working check your ingame console to see if it is giving you any errors

    Also note renaming the bsp one cubemaps have been built will break cubemaps.

    how can compilePal build cubemaps? Won't they look a lot different than when you build them with the game as compilepal can hardly reproduce the game's rendering.

    May @fubarFX confirm this, compile pal doesn't even have to try and reproduce it (that'd be silly!) and instead literally launches the engine to build them

    It launches the game, runs the buildcubemaps command and then exits it automatically

    does it do it for both HDR and LDR automaticly?

    The problem is this is on ANY map, even ones I play on servers and such. I'll give mat_specular a try

    Thankfully mat_specular 0 works, but wouldn't this just be temporary?

    Oops, I misred your original post, and I cant think of any reason why cubemaps wouldnt work on any maps or servers, again, check your game console maybe?

    Is it perhaps because you have fullbright enabled?

    No. this is an example of what happens on any server, even if it has lighting or fullbright

    Have at least one env_cubemap in your bsp. Renaming your bsp breaks cubemaps. Make sure hl2.exe has write permissions on your .bsp file. Make sure your not using a screwed up vmt. Those are the only reasons why cubemaps wouldn't work (unless you're onto some really obscure shit).
    mat_specular 0 is a client side command that disables reflections on your end only, other players will have missing reflections

    No. As I stated in my original post, this is on ANY map, it doesn't matter if it's a valve map, a custom server map or my map, it will have this missing box reflection.

    Thats kinda weird. Have you tried to verified game cache?
