Announcing Jailbreak mod/map

    Hello all!

    Just wanted to drop a line and say that I'm currently working on developing a mod / map for TF2 that introduces a different style of gameplay for TF2. I originally did this mod for Quake2 and decided to bring it to TF2. Basically, the goal is to capture the other team in your jail. Whenever you kill someone on the other team, they go to your jail (and vice versa). However, you can free your teammates by capturing the control point in your opponent's jail. To make things interesting, people entering jail lose their ammo. While in jail, you can try to escape through a secret route or start charging an uber. Once an entire team is in jail, the other team wins and the round starts over.

    I currently have the map mostly done and the mod part is also mostly done (it's a Sourcemod). We are currently beta testing the mod and map and hopefully will be able to release something soon. I'll also try to remember to take some screenshots to post.

    Ive been hearing about this game mode for a while now... sounds kinda like a team deathmatch. Should be fun! Let's see some screenies :D

    I would love to play it...as official gamemode. I don't like having 2 tf2, 1 for official and another one for this MOD. Is there a way to make it as a gamemode? have you tried to contact with Valve?

    Jailbreak was awesome - very fun. Great to hear you're bringing it to TF2 - that's exciting news.

    Sounds great, I loved Jailbreak in Quake II. Huh, lots of Quake II vets here..

    Edit: Bah, I read that last part incorrectly, so anybody who saw what I wrote here before, ignore it.

    I'll hit you up and help beta-testing.

    Im pretty sure that what you are talking about can be done without it being a seperate mod. There are jailbreak maps in hl2dm.

    I'm not sure what functions would entail using a Sourcemod plugin to run it, but regardless I have Sourcemod on my dedicated server and am all for trying out a gamemode new to TF2. I vaguely remember jailbreak from Q2 but back then I wasn't playing online much so it should be almost a new experience.

    If you wouldn't mind me hosting it on my box I'd be happy to. PM me a download link and I'll put it on the server soon as I can. Otherwise I'll keep an eye out for an official release.

    Yeah, really, why do you need Sourcemod?

    Limiting the player's ammo in the Jail is kinda weird. If you mean in the cell itself, you can just use a tutorial on the website to limit the people in the cell to melee weapons. If you mean in the whole jail itself, well, yeah, I think you'd need a mod for that.

    Also, the teleporting out of the jail cell when a person captures the point outside of it can simply be done with either func_teleports if you want them to teleport out of the jail altogether, or it can be done by having a door to the cell that is triggered to open for 30 seconds or so after the point is captured...

    But the one problem I forsee is the players dying and spawning in the jail...

    I think the big trick would be determining when an entire team was in jail to trigger the win condition.

    Shmitz wins the prize ;) There's no way to tell when the whole team is in jail using map triggers. You can run the map without the source mod, it's just a lot more boring. Taking away ammo is mostly just for fun and balance. Though it's also necessary to take away the spy's disguise kit when in jail - otherwise it he can effectively keep his team from losing by disguising (the jails are just cap points). He can get back the disguise by touching an ammo closet though. Maybe I can give it back to him when he escapes jail - I dunno how difficult that will be to do with sourcemod. Doing simple stuff is often way more difficult than it looks.

    We already have a server running the mod - I don't want to start giving it away just yet since there are still some bugs that need fixing, but hopefully in a few days I'll have those worked out.

    There's a way to make it for CSS that it would probably work here. There was already a way to do it on CS 1.6. I played a weird race map, all team had to climb a cliff, first team (all players) arriving at the top recibes weapons to kill the other team.

    im guessing you also have it so that players cant kill themselves via the console? or if they can do they simply respawn back in a prison cell? - i'm just thinking out loud of what i'd be trying to do sitting in a prison cell :D
