    Joke Map Gameday!

    So 3rd time's the charm or curse, idk. So it's just under 6 weeks until this event hits. Time to start planning, preping, blocking and popping some joke maps in my direction.

    I want to ask you guys a question, What do you think is preferable, 2 events running back to back for the EU then US server (like say starting at 5-6PM GMT and then at 10PM GMT moving us all over to the US server) or 1 Event on the US server at a kinda middle ground between both of us say at 8PM GMT? Use http://everytimezone.com/#2014-4-1,420,6be if you are bad at understanding timezones

    Also, crowbarring spells into your joke map is lame and will be punished if shit.

    Rules for Joke Map Submitters:
    • No serious maps for actual testing
    The map must be playable. This means fully functional objective system, spawns, and playable. I'l be running through the maps beforehand so dont just make dumb and unplayable. Make them dumb, unplayable AND FUN
    __Do not rename a bsp after compile. The vmf must be renamed before compile.
    Filename must be all lowercase. (ctf_example_a1.bsp, not CTF_Example_A1.bsp)
    __Our Linux servers don't work with uppercase names.
    Map may not use a point_servercommand to alter any variables. (Say in the PM if you would like me to disable crits/change the gravity etc)

    Submission Format:
    Send me a PM (I want the maps to be a surprise) with the following:
    • With the title: Joke Map Submission
    • Exact Map Filename (ctf_example_a4)
    • TF2Maps.net file ID number, OR url to offsite download.
    __BZ2 compressed files are greatly appreciated to save me time.
    __May not be a hosting site like mega-upload (wait times, codes, excessive ads, etc).
    If you are a donator with upload abilities, please say if you have already uploaded the map.

    Information
    • First come first serve, no set timelimit on the event so submit those maps
    • Maps will get switched out of if boring

    Oh and if wasn't obvious you can start making and submitting your maps whenever, i'm not going to bother looking at them until the Sunday before probably.     Anyone recall my entry from last year? It's the self playing piano. It does however have one major problem: the gameplay sucks and is barely influenced by the music. I am looking for someone more talented at mapping to take this proof of concept and make it a good gimmick map.

    When we were testing pl sergis yesterday, I mentioned that someone from last year's April Fools' Day gameday made the following statement: "We need to make 2fort except without anything in between the two forts." I thought it was Idolon who said that, but when I looked in my video files on my desktop, it was actually Lazy Bones who made the suggestion.

    Regardless, that map could be an idea for this year's event if that concept also included some other twists in that 2fort map. Otherwise, just removing the area between the two forts might not be make the map crazy enough to be a joke map.

    That depends on how the removal is done. You could just pull the two sides closer. A lot closer.

    Basically, I thought the idea was taking the area inside the green rectangle...

    ...removing it, and bringing the two sides together as shown below.

    Sewer pipes would be lined up. The area immediately after the ground level exits would need tweaks or a very tight room will be the end result. For the sniper level, there may be a small gap remaining or none at all.

    Also, I think the two events would definitely be better. Not only so the busy bees get a chance, but so we hit a wider audience for tf2maps.net events. :0

    Just downloaded all the maps so far and all together we have about 45 jokemaps from these 3 years. If you have a map to be submitted I would suggest sending them to me in less than 24 hours

    Are we going to play all 45 maps? If we are, in what order?

    I would expect the new maps get preference and load up old favorites upon request if (okay, when) the new maps piss people off too much and they want something else.
