There's nothing wrong with indoor maps, per se, but a lot of TF2's gameplay and artistic assets are based around larger areas than you would typically find indoors.
Because of this, there's a tendency to either (A) make the gameplay too cramped or (B) make the map feel strange.
If you're looking for large indoor areas, generally it comes down to airplane-hangars, warehouses, or huge caverns... and opening those caverns up to the sky is a good and common way to add to the "epic-ness".
