I have been on a roller coaster ride this week. It started with happiness, because long awaited pc upgrades arrived. That turned to frustration, because faulty parts resulted in constant crashing and troubleshooting getting in the way of every pc related thing I wanted to do, and it ended with me reinstalling old parts, and reinstalling windows because my old copy of windows had become corrupt.

This resulted in me losing all of my WiP maps.

I had about 10 I was working on. I would work on them in parts, when ever I thought of something I could add. They are now lost.

Why am I telling you guys this? Because this means a fresh start. As much as I enjoyed my old maps, they were nothing special. The only map I am 100% proud of is Smissmas Eve, which I will decompile and continue to work on. The rest of my maps will be fresh and innovative, using everything I have learnt.

Am I sad that I lost all my maps? Yes. Am I excited to start over? Even more so!

I hope to fit as much mapping in as possible with college starting soon, and cannot wait to rejoin you all in the great hobby of mapping.

If they were on the servers, we can get them for you and you can decompile them, shuold you choose to return to them.

I recommend you take this as a chance to... perhaps... stop working yourself so hard and not make maps daily! I'm a bit of a workaholic myself, but even I don't make new, or even work on maps daily! I usually like to balance 2-3 major projects to keep myself occupied. While this is just my personal preference, I recommend that you not make maps on a daily basis to keep your head clear and focus on your more major projects.

However, 2-3 extra side projects are always fun :)

The only one that I would like is pl_seasonsend and pl_smissmaseve, which are both on the servers. If you could decompile them for me that would be awesome.

I had a few which were huge, and I was really happy with them, but they were lost before I could release them. Aw well.

I say, take this as a learning experience: start using backups and source control.

I have folders in Dropbox for each map I work on. They don't take up much space and ensure you will never lose them. If you have extra space, you can keep pictures there too, as well as any custom content you use. Keeps things more tidy on your HDD and everything you need for a particular map stays in one place.
