CS Source SDK seems to be working after Steampipe conversion. I also sent a message to Valve person who usually replies back if question is valid to see what happens to SDK in general after Steampipe conversion.

Perhaps it is designed in such a way that all access of the files is done using a well designed api that hides the difference in archive file formats? Nah, that would be too convenient.

If you don't see the answer in this thread then we don't know takabuschik. At the moment this is all speculation extrapolated from issues other source games have had. Were the last game to be converted right? Maybe the team will move straight onto fixing this stuff after it's out

I received a reply to my question about the SDK and he said this:

We're going to release new SDK's.

So i guess they had that planned all along.

This was posted to hlds mailing list just now

We’re going to release new SDK’s within the next week or two.

We’ll get everything put back together.

So after TF2 goes Steampipe (next tuesday), 2 weeks from that or so.

Maybe they will even update the FGDs!

Sweet. Crossing my fingers that this is the brand-new toolset they were talking about back in 2011. I mean, there's still a very real possibility that it isn't, and it's just a slightly tweaked launcher designed to mesh with the new file structure, and the new SDK is still not happening until their new engine is out.

I kind of figured this would happen with SteamPipe being rolled out. I'm copying all the appropriate files now and, hopefully, I won't be left too high and dry when the update hits. I have to have my fix man. :(

has anyone experimented with .vpk files? are we 100% certain that Hammer won't recognize them?

The dedicated server for TF2's already available, but there hasn't been a client released that can talk to it yet.

It sounds like the switchover on Tuesday will be delayed a bit due to bugs, according to hlds_linux, so you guys have a little more time to map.

So it does means it's the end of tf2 mapping if Valve don't release tools for it?

They'll get around to it.

In the mean time, this is an excellent time to pick up modeling, texturing, modding or trying a new engine. Look at it as an opportunity to try something new! :]
