A Dumb question from a new mapper

Hi guys im Mort,

Sorry aboutthe extremely dumb question but how does VALVe and other mappers make things such as the CP's on Gravelpit, im just wondering how they make house like things,
do they make models and import them?
are they just l3e7 n1nj4?
Am i a moron?

How they make house like things?

If you mean the slanted roof, windows, etc, then that is made by either rotating (ick) or clipping (yes) a normal "brush" until it is in the desired position and shape.

If you mean any room, then your problems with mapping lie very deep indeed, do you have Source SDK?

If you mean the control points themselves, they are made with a combination of prop_dynamic cap point models, which are already in Hammer, a trigger brush entity, a capture point 'flag', and a control point master.

The method I use for slanted roofs is vertex manipulation, just because it gives you a little more control over the results.

Remember, ALT+F when on a middle point splits the vertex! Perfect for roofs!

Can't use a single brush though. It has to be two, otherwise you get an invalid solid.
