    Hello everyone, with Valve's release of their map source files, there have been a couple map edits so far. I know it's looked down upon but I ask you put that dislike aside for a moment. I'm basically looking for opinions on what's done, some of my ideas to do and in general your criticism.

    One idea I have had floating around for a long time was cp_2fort, I had only ever mapped out the control points in my mind, and it's same general set up anyone else would likely think of. Now that the source files are released, I decided to put that plan into action.

    Middle CP on the bridge, CP for each team in the courtyards, and the final two in the intel rooms.

    However, I believe that's just a cop out, I'm going to put at least some effort into this. I only started very recently, but here's what I have done.

    Now here's where some effort is going to be going. The two entrances to the intel room are far too cramped for things so I'm going to be modifying it. Here it is right now, I'm obviously going to add some details to it, possibly some pillars.

    This is what I've done after a bit time working on this, I intend to do more, even if this map will be for my private use with friends or whatever.



    Anyway, there's a couple ideas I wanted to get some opinions on.

    I've seen a melee-only version of 2fort and there's also arena_2fort, one thing both of these maps have that I think this map would benefit from is having a ramp or staircase out of the water.

    I think there are pros and cons to having this in the map. I definitely want some opinions on this


    Another big modification I want to make is bridging the sewers to the bottom room like so

    Again, pros and cons and I'd like some opinions. This gives the teams another route to enter the final area and the courtyard point.

    In closing, I hope you'll be a little open minded about me modifying Valve's map. I look forward to anyone's criticism and opinion.

    One thing I don't understand, is why everyone that edits 2Fort really thinks there needs to be another way out of the water. Why is that?

    I'm just saying it could be a good thing, could be a bad thing. That's why I want people's opinions about it :)

    You clearly stole my idea and 1/2 WiP that I didn't post because of this:

    In the past someone posted a "ctf_2fort_rainy_day" or something and everyone was like :(

    So I didn't.

    But it looks like yours has 120% more cowbell than mine would ever have.

    I had all the caps in the same spot and was using a decompiled map.

    Me and my friends will most likely get this map when you're finished.

    In summary: "YOU DID WELL!"

    You know, If I wanted to make a cp_2fort, I'd make a map similar to it from scratch.

    Well, no - I don't think any other way out of the water is a good thing.

    The water is supposed to feel like one of those sneaky ways that exist in a map...yet is a deathtrap if watched correctly.
    Providing a way out of the water in the middle is a complete smack in the face to everything that 2Fort is supposed to be.

    Then again I'm one of those people who think the roof over the bridge is a smack in the face to 2Fort...

    cp_2fort has already been done before I believe.
    Anyhow everyone here would much prefer you to make your own map from scratch, feels kinda cheaty to edit off someone elses map.

    Funny how everyone gets the same idea. Where the CP's end up in the same place. But then there are only limited choices due to room sizes.

    Why not try putting the middle cp under the bridge. All these "omg convert this maps game mode" are so predictable. I can't see why anyone hasn't thought "well fighting over a cp under shallow water would be interesting", everyone shoves the cp on the bridge. But then i guess that's why these people are converting other people's maps and not making their own. A severe lack of imagination.

    At least you did spend a bit of time into it, even if it is a 2fort remake.

    But we don't really approve of remade maps, that's what FPSB is for.

    You add ramps to the water, make the spiral wider, open up the sewer and make the intel room larger, you might as well start over and make the map from scratch. It will turn out better that way anyway.

    Attack the idea, not the person (if you must attack anything). Failure to comply will result in further action.
    Just a gentle reminder to keep it civil - even if you do want edits of valve maps to burn in a furnace.

    More on topic I am OK with a CP 2fort because he point the time in built the stuff not just change the lighting. However, I would like to see a original map the next time.

    It's alright, I kind of expected this response


    The reason I'm editing a valve map is because I have a lot of trouble sticking with a time-consuming idea, good or otherwise due to ADD or some lack of drive. I have a number of maps in other games, not necessarily 3D, that could be good but I just can't get myself to work on them. They've just wilted away on my harddrive.

    Not to mention all the little bits that go into a full TF2 map, it's just more likely to get finished if the layout and basic structure are there.

    The main reason I brought it here was because I wasn't just going to throw new entities into the mix and call it a day, as you can see from my one screenshot, I'm going to be altering the basements and I'll likely be putting in some spawn changes based on caps, I am most certainly going to make use of that bottom spawn room.

    If I can get anything out of you guys, could it be an opinion on my final idea of bridging the sewer to the basement?

    I really don't think 2fort is in any way a suitable layout for a CP map.
    But who am I kidding, I don't think it's a suitable layout for ANY map in TF2. The map was designed for a two generation old version of the game that played way differently and now it is just horrible, I wish it could have died off a long time ago.

    Also I'm editing the [WIP] out of your title... that's what pretty much every thread here is.
