If someone is going to send a mail to Valve...

Could you please add this at the end ?

It would be great to have, in the loading screen and in the scorboard, the name of the mapper along with the name of the map and the game mode.

I don't think this is worth an email from me ; but I'd love to see it added. I sometimes forget which map is whose ; and that would also be very good for the mappers themselves (if the map becomes popular...).

Including Valve-made maps, of course :p

That would be a problem for Valve maps ripoffs (like 2fort_fixed_night_lolol), though.

Edit : and add in that mail the squary particles bug, and a way to stop invisible spies from blocking captures in Invade CTF.

The same way it know the map description and objectives (on the chalkboard). I don't map myself, so I don't know.

It reads the entities in the map and shows the certain name for the gamemode it's made for. It's why you don't see 'Surf' as a gamemode when loading a surf map (because it's not a gamemode)

But I guess there could be an entity that Valve could make dedicated for the Author's name, and the loading screen load that.

I meant this text :

I don't think that one is in an entity ; but this could be a better idea.

No! It does NOT read the entities. During the loading screen the map obviously has not loaded and it can't read anything. All it goes by is filename.
(dustbowl says something different for the same reason badwater's name is different, valve coded it special)

For this reason, you can't show author there. As for the chalkboard text, authors can already put whatever they want there. It's their decision whether or not they plaster their name on it.

That's not what I was trying to say. Sorry, I can't speak English very well.

I would like that the mapper's name would show in the scoreboard, in the bottom right-hand corner, with the map's name.

I talked about the chalkboard because Jonah wanted to know how this information could be put into the map ; I though it could be included the same way as the chalkboard text (I don't know how it works).

I'm sad to learn that it can't be included in the loading screen :(

As for putting the name on the chalkboard, no one evers read it. Having the mapper's name in the scoreboard could help people knowing who made that wonderful/terrible map.

The chalkboard is a separate text file included with the map file. It can't be displayed on the loading screen, because simply it hasn't been loaded yet.

Simplest way to let people know you made the map, is hide your logo in the map. people will find it.

Left 4 Dead has something similar to this. It shows the name of the author of a custom campaign as well as website download and such. Im sure this could be implemented into the loading screen in tf2.

The game reads from a txt file or res file, not sure about that part.

It takes a few seconds to load the map name also. So it can indeed be some entities.

mapname.info file to include in the bsp maybe? Allowing to set a custom gamemode text (for surf maps or other custom gamemodes) and an author (and probably more later) but best of all... a custom mapname. maybe an idea to send to valve youme? :p

It honestly is the map name, not the entities. Seriously, make a map with nothing in it but a room and an info_player_teamspawn, and call it cp_emptylevel or whatever. Compile it and load it up, you'll see the game realizes it's a control points map.

And what about the squary particles bug? :D

That ain't really valves fault, that is the mappers fault.
If someone uses custom particles and put their manifest in maps/ instead of particles/, It WILL mess up the maps after until you reset your TF2.
