Punctuality Ftw! :blushing:

This is (read: was) my swamp submission map - family trip, bomb_factory and school got in the way of my working on it during most of the contest period (I started roughly right when the announcement was made; finished it in these past two days before it's conclusion). I really enjoyed working with the swamp set and found it rather inspirational - can't wait to see what everyone else did with it!

Just went to post it as the clock struck 1am here (which wound up making it about six-ish hours late) - to the closed thread. It's my own silly fault (I wanted to get ctf_bomb_factory_a5 done, after all) for being late with it, so it's coo if I'm not counted (besides, eerieone's submission made me jizz in my pants and Gadget's gave me mapenis envy :bored:).
Edit: Yeah, don't count it.

Nonetheless, I'll be fleshing this out into an arena map (mirror symmetry, not rotational), so I thought I'd go ahead and reserve the thread while I was here. The zip has the .vmf and a screen because I'm too lazy to alter my upload now that it's there. ;)

Feel free to give it a run around!

Wow, sorry to hear you didn't make it. Too bad, looks like you had a good chance.

Hope to see the arena map soon! :)

do they count the deadline at exactly 0:00, then? that's pretty pedantic

No actually i locked the thread around 6 hours after the deadline, so it must have been pretty late! we've already started processing the entries, getting a late one really creates problems with that, so the deadline is actually more like once the processing process :)laugh:) starts.

You also have to be careful with allowing late submissions in when you're giving out prizes, if a late one should suddenly wipe the floor with all others people will start calling foulplay.

Oh. Well, I assumed he posted it at 0:01 or something like that, but if that's not the case, yeah, it's your own fault :p

It definitely looks great though, let's see what comes out of this!

No yeah - definitely don't count it, then (for the six hours thing, not the remotest of possibilities that I'd have wiped anything with this yet ;)). Can't wait to see the winners, though!

Why not count it but don't award any prizes? Or if there is grading and releasing what the judges think, maybe also grade it so he gets feedback on what he did at least? (And make that the general rule for contests, like if you are late by less than a day or something)

This has been a general good will consensus amongst most of the TF2maps community regarding late submissions. An inclusion into the rating system but to not be awarded any prizes due to neglect on their own part. But that said, it seems a little.. awkward, for the voting side of things, to allow votes to be awarded to a submission that wont win/be allowed to win, that might otherwise have caused a legitimit win for one map over another legitimit map. Due to how the votes get split. To allow a redundant submission to influence vote counts like that doesn't seem fair on those who did as rules required. However harsh that might be.

Ah, for votes that makes sense that it shouldn't be able to be voted for taking a vote away. Though what if you could do a 'fake' vote for it, like if you vote for the late submission, you get an extra one for a map that made it in on time?

Well since he posted it here and will make a map out of it he will most probably get his feedback anyway :) It's a shame he can't be on the contest but knowing how troublesome it can be to administer these kind of thing makes me think it's a good decision

The votingsystem used in the contest is the one coming with the forum, and I think it's impossible to alter the poll in that way

Haha, whoops - didn't realize I'd start a discussion. I just thought the circumstances of my attempted submission were comical, not unfair. A "Doh!" moment, not a "FML!" one, so to speak. As I missed the contest deadline, I missed the contest and that's all there is to it - but that's fine since I'd been planning on expanding this into a map anyway. Sorry to everyone else in a similar situation, but we can't all operate on Valve time.

I'm just happy for the experience and the hawt new props.

Also: you are on Gator Cam. No cheating. Or feeding Gator Cam. None of that.

I hereby award your swamp map the prize of the first one I download and look around!

Pretty cool. You've got quite a lot of good ideas in there; things I particularly liked:

* Using the logs as the supports and the especially the framing of the balcony; makes it feel very haphazard and rickety.
* The lighting in the main building: the room is decently lit, but the ceiling is mostly dark from the shadow cast by the beam.
* Using the mossy vine texture for moss growing on the undersides of things.
* The half-submerged capture point (although it might be a bit unfair on pyros!)

Well certainly a shame it looks very good, possibly could have been top 5 (which is pretty good cuz some of those swamp maps look damn tasty.) Well better luck next time.
