Uh... that's not supposed to happen...

I redid the spawns on my map today (I originally used carving, which is bad) and now I have a problem.
Outside my BLU Spawn, there is a HUGE wedge. It doesn't interact with anything, it just sits there. No collisions, nothing. It doesn't even show up in Hammer.
The weird thing is, it only happens to my BLU Spawn.
I copy-pasta'd the BLU Spawn, flipped it and changed a few textures for my RED Spawn, but the glitch doesn't happen.
Any ideas what could be causing this and how I can fix it?

go to Map > Check for problems. This should list any major issues pre-compile.

You might have an invalid brush or a 'texture perpendicular to face'.

Your best bet is to delete the offending brush and replace it. Copy and rotating a/the brush may have defualted the offending face "to world" and thus fixed it, so it wouldn't be effecting your other spawn.

This is one possibility.

edit:

Also, this page is your friend. http://www.interlopers.net/errors/

Paste your compile log in it and click "check for problems" and it will list most of any problems that could have arrisen during compilation. Your compile log will list more error's than your Hammer's "check for problems" will be able to predict/is aware of.

Another possibility (one that I myself have faced) is that you have a micro brush somewhere. I had a microbrush show up in my map from doing too much cutting on an object and missing a spot when cleaning it up. It ended up creaitng this large triangle shape floating at about the same height as the microbrush was, it appeared to be effected by lighting and had textures but wasn't actually THERE (clipped through it, shot through it, and didn't show up in hammer)

IIRC it may mention something about a "microbrush" in your compile log.

It had something to do with the roof I made, so I copy-pasta'd the RED Roof and adjusted it for BLU and it works.

Moral of the story: Carve Tool is bad... for anything more complex than doing a on grid, simple shape cut.

Actually, this problem was caused by re-doing the rooms I originally made using carving.
What does that say... :p
