People still remember that map?

Don't they?

You see, I'm a bit skeptic if valve is ever going to make a hunted map, it appears as if they are going to replace hunted with "goldrush", and have hunted go the ways of rock2, crossover2, and the other good TFC maps we all knew and loved.

I have come up with a solution for a hunted map, I currently have a method to implement new brush entities and logical entities into maps, these entities could do things such as restrict what classes a team can use, limit the amount of classes per team, and new trigger entities to say... give people ubercharge while they are in the trigger.

I wanted to use this tech to have a remake done of hunted, but I'm just a programmer. Not a mapper, theres no way I could make a decent looking hunted that people would want to play.

So, I'm looking for someone to make a quality remake of hunted. It just needs to be the actual map. It needs to fit within the TF2 theme, and also stay true to the original hunted map as far as the layout.

The original hunted map had ladders, TF2 does not have ladders (at least the way they were in TFC). I intend to resolve this if I can get a mapper.

It does not need to 'work' in hunted gameplay mode as I'm going to handle the entities related to the hunted game mode.

I'm also willing to pay the mapper for his effort in this (experienced mappers only please), and also because the map would only work on servers running my code. (which for the time being, are just my own servers)

The mapper would of course get full credit for the map, and a high priority slot on my server.

Would anyone be interested in this?

Interesting proposition, wish I could be of service. I have a terrible habit of not finishing projects, despite having plenty of experience when it comes to using Hammer. I'd definitely like to see a Hunted type mode, though. It'd certainly be a project worth finishing.

Hopefully someone with a knack for remakes will take the reigns, but if all else fails I'd be willing to give it a shot.

You got an idea of the direction you want to take the map graphically? i.e. dustbowl/badlands sort of environment, or something more industrial?

Industrial.

Please do not take on this project if you are not an experienced mapper. I'm looking for quality work. I'd prefer the mapper to start from scratch rather than building off of the old hunted.

did a quick search...

Is this what HUNTED is? i was not a TFC player so i do not know..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G02C1FuRp30

^ Granted thats a port to TFF however, is said to be very accurate. for the look of the one in the youtube video, it seems like some very basic brushwork,...well as all older maps are i suppose lol

That's basically it, but of course, too dark. The lighting will need to be similar to the original hunted.

Since multiple people are willing to take this on, think of this as a contest from now on. The one with the best design and fits in with TF2 the most will be used.

hunted/VIP was one of my favourite gametypes in tfc

but really you're asking for desert before dinner

many are probably too interested to express their full interest because they don't want to be disappointed for a speculation of a product.

the contest style idea also seems somewhat of a conflict point, as its multiple people trying to encapture the gameplay from an obsolete system. i believe there will be many "remakes" but truly the best one will end up being the most non hunted like, because of these advances in the source

as for ladders, if you're not testing your own code against with your own maps, then it could end up to be a long process of coding, waiting for design reply to test code, repeat.

But as I have said I am VERY interested, just show me the money ;)
working ladders and a new gametype and youll have EVERY mapper on your side :p

I'll be happy to show proof of concept entities to prove I can actually do what I say I'm doing.

I'll also be willing to code up a specific entity. Just make a request.

Maybe ladders aren't the way to go... modify the map's structure instead of the game's code? I mean, tf2 gameplay just isn't meant to work with ladders. A demoman could camp it forever for instance, and easily too, putting it just above the ladder's lip. Perhaps stairs might do better, or tiny elevators like in mach4?

I'm gonna start real quick with a ladder. It's actually might be very easy.

i think the big problem with the ladder type is it will look as though the character is "falling" up the ladder =/ ridiculously silly looking.

Personally, i think jump pads would look better, but thats just my opinion.
