A quicker way of 3D modelling?

Saw it on the YouTube front page... and it looks amazing! It could really be helpful for creating models you wouldn't normally get up to, like skybox props and such.

Hey, I remember this. I was obsessed with it for the longest time, trying to find out how to get it, but it wasn't out yet :(

It's not that hard, he's just taking off his bottom hat, the origin coordinates of the rest are parented to it. :p

They must have some way of coding in the movement of the camera relative to the target, though they don't explain or show it in the video.

I wonder how they were determining the depth of the car. Notice after they draw their first few vertices, they're already at the correct depth in the scene. Acoustic rangefinding? Paired cameras for stereoscopic view?

Am I the only one noticing the bad faces on the sides of the car, and how the entire front of it looks like it's recently been in a car accident?

Cool for a rough model to add details to, but the detailing it did by itself looks mediocre at best.

Can't really say much about the second model it did though, never got close enough to see any detail.

I have to agree, I think it's a very lame way of modeling.

Lame, yes, but quicker.

You could probably output it to Maya/Blender/3Dmax anyway and make it better anyway, using VideoTrace as a basic guide.

You could, but chances are if you have no idea how to model the basic shape yourself, you're not going to know how to improve what it pumps out for you either.
