On August 24, 1996, a little mod for some game called "Quake" came out. The authors wanted to create a mod designed specifically for team games at LAN , and it eventually evolved to something more. Perhaps you've heard of this "Team Fortress" thing.

Version 1.0 didn't even have all the classes we know of today. It had:
Scout
Sniper
Soldier
Demolitions Man
and
Medic

It didn't support any special map entities, either.

Soon afterwards, they released a update which brought in the Heavy Weapons Guy and some little map you probably played called "2fort."

So, let's celebrate. Anyone got any good classic TF stories?

Time for another day of forced birthday mode!

Blast. I've allways wanted to see how this worked when It's forced on every server. Of course my computer had to go down now...

Well, Happy Birthday anyways you insanly fun timewaster.

Cripes, I remember all that.

I only played the original Team Fortress a little bit, and it was at one of those LAN centers you simply can't find anymore, where you go and pay an hourly fee to play games on networked computers. I was a fan of Quake and was asked by some people there to play Team Fortress with them. Most of my time was spent as the Demoman, and I wasn't very good.

But wow, it has been such a long time. Great memories.

I recently got TFC just for the heck of it (the Steam one, so not the super-original Quake mod one). It's really different from TF2, but fun in its own right. My favorite part is seeing the maps that were remade for TF2 in their original forms.

One nice thing about it is that the server I usually play on has bots that play intelligently and with varied tactics, so there's always someone to play with. :) Makes up for the fact that few if any human players ever join me. :p

Happy burpday TF!

I didn't realize this before I saw the birthday hats on the TF2Maps server, when it dawned on me that Valve must be celebrating something.

Wow, I was barely 4 years old when Team Fortress was released...

I'm hoping for a free hat for everyone on TF2's birthday. :p

I've had it for ages (Old Half Life fan) but I never played it till recently. It's so weird... seeing dustbowl and badlands...

I don't get the spies though, I tried playing as him and I just got confused. Same with medic... I guess all that TF2 got to my head.
