I could go into explaining it, but this screenshot speaks 2000 words.

About 100 units at the base of the map is in constant shadow.

There's no leak, no pointfile, the compile log checker says nothing is wrong...No block light brushes or anything like that. Nothing I can find is causing the shadows (No its not the huge rock walls).

It was working fine until I changed the map shape from a big box to a a bit sticking out. I've changed it back but its still being odd.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Its most likely your skybox, have you got a 3D skybox? if you have you've got a brush or displacement that would equate to 100 units above your ground and is casting a shadow on it, even though you can't see it.

Golden rule of 3D skyboxes: they cast shadows in the normal world!

I can't think of anything in my skybox. Everything but the probs is covered in nodraw. I'll try redoing the skybox, I don't have many props there. I'll get back to you.

Okay, that worked, but now I have another problem and I'm not going to post another topic.

I'm getting the "Engine hunk overflow" error whenever I try to load my map. I did a search and I found that it means that I've reached the engines limit. So I reverted what I had done, but the problem still persists! The pointfile is now pointing at random things that I havn't touched since they were working perfectly fine, such as the trigger area at the final CP, and a random track prop.
Am I going to have to just start over! Grr this is so frustrating!

Try copying your map into another file and saving a fresh version.

But that said. Your map seems like it's a very huge scale and could do with some cutting down.

I'll try tonight when I get home. I'll pull in everything I can and copy to a fresh file. I'll get back to you.

EDIT: Problem fixed. I made the skybox follow the canyon walls instead of a box around the playing area. Didn't need to copy and paste at all.

FYI, that massive wall (or cliff, it's hard to tell) is tiling very badly. You may want to try another method. Try making that a displacement wall or give that wall some segments to break it up some and add detail.
