Hey.. I'm super new at map making.. so I was giving this tutorial a try. However, it's not working out to well. I have read over it and I know I am probably missing something stupid.. but no matter which grid I click on and make an object. I can't get it to fit around the open areas.

Can someone please explain to me which grid to create an object on? I've tried them all. Or just a trick on doing this.

Thank you.

Edit: Forgot picture.

Here it is.

I find it easiest when creating walls to something like that, to click on one of the walls (this saves the brushes proportions for your next drawn brush) and in top view draw the walls to seal the cube.

just when you click on brushes to re-use the dimensions be careful of overlapping the brushes which causes a flickering when you view them because the 2 edges are fighting for your pretty eyes. Just a heads up on that, to avoid doing that it's usually pretty common for people to "miter" the corners, being match any walls that meet at 90 degrees to cut the walls 45 on each and they clean up nice. Much like the floor boards in your house.

Thanks a lot for the tips guys, it helped me out a ton. Made my first enclosed super small map with health, a saw, and lights! :O

Anyways, I decided that making another topic for this was extremely stupid so I would just post the question here. I really wanted to make a different game mode for a default map. To load the map into Hammer would I have to get the decompiled map version, which isn't a problem since it's listed on the site. Or would I already be able to load it and edit it.

Thanks.

Well the SDK comes loaded with the .vmf's of a bunch of the default maps already, so check if the one you want is in there. If not, you have to download the decompiled version from the site. Hammer can't open .bsp's, you need the .vmf if you want to edit it.

i've heard the decompiled maps don't decompile correctly sometimes, so expect to have to fix some weird issues if you try to modify the game-mode of an already released map. Just a heads up.

Another post, since I don't think I should make a new topic. Are there any good tutorials on making a CTF into a PLR, or removing the CTF aspect to create the PLR. Or just make a PLR. Anything really..

Thanks.

Edit: Also how would I use that ABS's Game Library thing.. when I installed it, does it automatically come up in Hammer? Or how do I access it.

You just open the .vmf file like any other map.
