I'm starting to put in some actual non-dev textures into my map, but i had a question: is it alright to put HL2 textures in the map? If not, how do I tell if a texture is from HL2 or TF2?

Thanks in advance.

hot topic/debate really.

So i'll answer you with on the texture browser screen type "TF" in the "KEYWORDS" for tf2 only textures.

Yeah use the keywords filter will separate any textures in the browser to only display the selected type its quite helpful.

As for the "using hl2 in tf2" textures issue, like DJive said its really a debatable issue, my personal opinion is that it depends on the texture as well as how it is used. For example, there is only one "fence" type texture for TF (IIRC the only one is Chicken Wire) so using another fence texture can be done IF it fits the "feel" of the map.

Once again this is my opinion though, many feel using ANY non-tf texture is strictly Taboo and they are no less or more correct than I am, its really an opinion thing.

Ok, thanks. I was looking at a couple concrete textures for walls, but I didn't know if they were HL2 or TF2 textures.

I would guess that if you do use HL2 textures, you would have to BSPZip, or whatever that's called, the texture into the .bsp. But yes, thanks.

Oh OK, I thought that people wouldn't have HL2 textures unless they owned HL2. But if you say so...
