Alright, Opposing force and Blue Shift are on sale for less than $2 each this weekend. Should I get them?

If you're a fan of HL1 opposing force is fun. I have blue shift but I've never played it for more than 20 minutes... so I've only seen the beginning... I've been meaning to play it though.

Opposing Force was fun, but very very hard. Thankfully it's countered by the fact you get some pretty badass weapons, even including a "portal" gun that in one shot will send any enemy into Xen. (and right click randomly sends you to a different place. that is special for that section of the game (each load state has a new section) ).

As for Blue shift... it's short and the ending is disappointing and sudden. But the story isn't half bad and it's still an entertaining game.

I'd say take it for such cheap prices. Half life is a classic, and while expansions will always be sub-par, it's still great fun. But if you're only choosing one, go for Opposing Force.

Yeah, Opposing Force is one of my old favorites.

Honestly, though, you can play the first half of that using only the wrench and some sneaking/jumping skills. It's pretty hilarious.

After that, though, it gets incredibly difficult on whatever difficulty you're on. It's good for a challenge if HL1 wasn't enough for you.

I need to try that, haven't played it in awhile.

I'm still waiting for the sven co-op release for that though.

I liked them enough that they are worth it. Infact my friend is making a blueshift mod that i guess will add multiplayer co-op or something. Blue-Shift Reassignment.

I got both for $1 around New Years' last year, and I liked 'em both okay. Opposing Force is, as stated, very hard (I admit I used cheats near the end just to be able to reach the ending :(). Blue Shift is almost like one of the HL2 "Episodes" length-wise (shorter even? Probably) and doesn't introduce any new enemies or weapons, while Opposing Force has plenty of both. It does, however, help to give some insight into how Barney Calhoun survived the Black Mesa ordeal, so if you're into that sort of background story complete-ness, it's pretty good.

Not sure if I'll ever replay either game, but for as cheap as they are right now it's quite worth it.

EDIT: Whoa, forgot something MAJOR you need to know about Opposing Force: There is a door about 2/3 of the way through the game which obstructs your entire path and must be opened in order to progress, but opening it crashes the game. Apparently Valve no longer updates these games so you're stuck. There are, however, a number of videos out there of how to carefully noclip to the next non-crashing point in the game (noclipping through the door also crashes it as it's having whatever is behind it on-screen that actually causes the wreck).

Just something to keep in mind when you buy OF.

I have a question here, I'm getting this soon and I don't want TFC, can I just give TFC to my friend?

Yes, you can but I don't know it you can do it with a bunch of purchases. It would be easier to do tfc as a separate transaction.

as far as i know if you own 2 or more copies of the same game on one account then you send one copy as a gift.
