Fairytale Theme
This may be slightly off topic:
I recall seeing Yahtzee Croshaw's review of the Orange Box a long time ago.
I recall him calling out TF2 on its lack of map enviroment variety describing it as Industrial Environment, Desert Enviroment or Urban Industrial Desert Enviroment.
I was thinking with the new Swamp-etition (Swamp+Competition=I'm not very funny) of what would be other cool themes for Tf2. I thought of the cartoony nature of Tf2 and had what I think may be a very good idea.
Imagine a scout and a soldier charging through a fairytale grove. The scout jumping carelessly over a majest-slain unicorn. The soldier taking a quick glance at a cartoon like tree, with a two person longsaw halfway through it. Ammopacks strewn among fairy rings (Mushroom Circles). A sentry or two being sapped on a Happily-Never-After Keep.
Being a mediocre mapper at best and with my first Tf2 map on my plate I can't really move forward on this idea. I would assume creating this theme would involve making new textures, models and more. But for anyone who is up for an interesting challenge here's the idea
Anyone have any comments or input?
