Hey there.

I'm mildly interested in making maps for TF 2.
I'm a winter person, drawn to snowy themes, so you can expect my maps to \ eventually, if at all XD \ featury cold, snowy looking terrain.
I'm a complete idiot for hammer and map editing right now, so any and all help you can shovel at my face would be awesome.

I plan to make : All kinds of maps .
I plan to make, because I hate you : Mindf*ck maps (Oh you'll see =3).
Mindf*ck maps are made to be hilarious romps that can be played and enjoyed but will\might not offer mission objectives to collect \ traverse \ use for victory conditions.
I want maps that amaze, scare, or shock people. The pleasant kind of shock, not the..girl in a tub kind of shock *twitch*

So yeah. New here and I'm a smartass. Sup :-D.

Do you have any screen shots of any maps you have made in the past?

Also if you are having problems click the first link in my signature and that should point you in the right direction.

Anyway welcome to TF2Maps.net!

Yeah I'm being jerked around a lot today so I'll mostly check that out in full-view tomorrow. I opened up Hammer for the first time today and it scared the ever-loving sh*t out of me XD.
I'd need to learn the insanely complicated looking basics before I started anything.
Nope, sorry, unfortunately I'm a mapper virgin, but I DID read some of hammer's dev documentation on the dev wiki...

Edit : However, if you want to help me more in-depth and with faster response times, perhaps over live chat, I'm on AIM as DragonOtaku7 , MSN at BWD@uze.net .
Or if you just want to mail me with whatever , there's Blackwingdragon@gmail.com .
I check all of those quite frequently, but there is an impending chicago visit a month away after which I'll look for a full-time job...

Hi Blackie :D

I'd suggest starting really slowly, just screwing around in Hammer with some stuff, flying through the maps Valve released for the SDK and whatnot. Then I started by making a spawnroom - it's a nice and simple task that shouldn't take too long since it's just one room and the basis for all maps, after all.

I do use MSN too and I'll add you as fast as I can. Feel free to play on gamedays so you can get a feel of what's accepted/preferred/required in custom maps and how badly some things can go wrong =P

As for snowy maps, you might want to check out [ame="http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=7454"]Snowdrift[/ame] by Jonah. Unfortunately there are no snow textures provided by default, Jonah still uses a recolored Gravelpit texture for the ground as far as I know. Someone should make an Arctic theme pack (hint hint)

Apropos, check these out:
Swamp Theme Pack (optional)
[ame="http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=4674"]Ultimate Mapping Resource Pack[/ame] (highly recommended)

Ah, no freely avalaible textures mean I can default to a jungle-ish texture set, which would have been my second choice.
AWESOME :-D .Hei boi I hope you can help me with some stuff down the road.
Hammer confuzzles the f*ck out of me.

It's not all that bad once you get used to it. I'm pretty new to it myself, but it's easy to get the hang of.

Certainly hope so.
I'd love to push out a map before this contest ends.
40 days sounds like enough time..if I can get past how annoying hammer is XP.

Yeah, but it's got a variety of other uses, custom models being one of them.

It's just a pain in the ass when it comes to maneuvering around, or selecting things. (It likes to think that you're selecting whatever's under what you actually want to select)
