by the fact that you cant wrap your head around my opinion
i said nothing about rubbish or pitchforks.
my critique was direct and straightforward.
it was what i thought at the moment, nothing more nothing less

william hung knew he had no talent for singing or dancing, but he performed on american idol anyway because he had the gumption and attitude to believe in himself

my statement falls along these lines.

from what i saw DEVELOPMENTWISE (not based on this conversation)

it was a valiant effort, you learned much from your experience and you tried, but it just doesnt express quality enough in my eyes to elicit "fun".

you're lucky im not simon cowell

P.S. DJive explained it the best. im done here

I am not an experienced mapper. I pointed that out in the first post. But I do think have a fine sense of what makes a game fun or good. This is my first complete map made in hammer in like....uh...all time. I wanted to create a complete map that would be simple and fun to play, and I did (people enjoyed it, so mission succesful). I'm trying to make it not look like total ass, but amazing is something it will never be. I would have to rebuild it from scratch. The whole thing that started this argument was the useless comment by Snipergen.
Im really sorry koei most of the time i actually post the best as I can but i just lose it when i see stuff like this. Keep it at counterstrike or whatever you want but dont release this or ill get the pitchforks :p
You call this a normal comment?

@trackhead: the pitchfork comment wasn't directly aimed at you. It was about what Snipergen said.

The whole point of starting this topic in the first place was to get some tips to make the map look better. Maybe changing stuff to the architecture. This will ofc influence gameplay a little. But if you don't like a map based around this glass principle I don't really care. I have fun with it, my friends have fun with it.

If people enjoyed it and that was your mission then yes, well done. I think everyone going into this post had the same thought again "not another one of those" Which these types maps leave a bad taste in peoples mouths. Non of the people here i don't believe were attacking you, just attacking "that map again"

As i said in prev post, i would LOVE to see this done "right".

glass/break maps have a reputation that goes with them, unfortunately its simple gameplay, badly mapped, no care for optimization, bad technique released in beta.

^^ non of those are towards you at all, im just mentioning the "burden" that goes with those types of maps.

This was your first map so a big congrats on the first step, you mentioned a CP map, im sure it will be good times.

If you really want to defend your point with glass maps though,.. be the first EVER glass/break mapper who actually cares about the map they are releasing. DO optimize, DO use techinque, DO map it out great, DO do everything other mappers are not =)

@ Scoobing: quote me where I say that all orange maps have good gameplay? I'll give you 50 bucks if you do :). Gameplay wise I know the direction of this map, and I playtested it for several hours now with up to 30 people playing it (unlike you at the moment ;)). And if you want to talk about gameplay: most custom maps have flaws. Even the very populair ones, like castle. I know the guy who made it is one of you. It looks nice, but gameplay wise it could use some changes.

I never said you said that. I said that all orange maps are crap. And you said I'd rather play a good orange map.

I know you know how it plays, but you said that there's nothing we could tell you about it. Never underestimate the power of a fresh eye, and to turn a deaf ear to someone with an opinion is:

Arrogant

PS I do not consider castle a good custom map in any sense of the term.

Because you and your friends found it "fun" doesn't mean that it has good gameplay. Even if it does, I hardly doubt it can't be improved and that you know everything about it. That's my point.

Just want to say something to the OP. Arguing with criticism (IE, defending what you did) makes no sense in a WIP forum. The whole point of posting something here is to hear what people have to say about it. Theres no point in posting saying, "well, i dont agree with what you criticized because..."

That is the whole point. If you had any faith in your creativity or art, you wouldn't feel the need to defend your choices. Furthermore, having faith in your own ability does not equal a good end product.

When someone gives you constructive criticism, just accept it. Follow the change, or disagree with the change, but either way, there is no reason to tell the person why you did what you did. By posting feedback they are trying to help you.

I understand that Bazola. But I haven't heard any criticism I can work with, except make it look awesome instead of a dull collection of objects. But I got a crazy idea now, and have to see how it will work out ;)

It's in a very early stage. But I don't think I'll announce it here when you comment like that. You shall see it popping up sooner or later.

please feel free to post anything and everything TF2 you make in hammer.

It's already here honey <3

:)

Please take any non-constructive comments you get here in the WIP forum with a grain of salt.

and take those with constructive criticism with an open mind. many mappers here have been making maps a long time, many do know what they are talking about.

also, please dont feel discouraged when you hear that your map 'sucks'. keep at it, keep at it, and it will get better with time and practice. mapping is a skill that develops with practice, its not something you're automatically just good at (some exceptions of course).

myself and the rest of the staff try and keep a pretty tight ship without being overbearing on our members. we let some stuff pass, but if you feel you are being treated unfairly, please dont hesitate to use the PM feature, or report a post.

Why dont you add detail, make it look like a map, instead of being a 10 min throw together map? This looks like junk and things you need to fix are: Textures, optimization, make it not a fun map, Make it look like its worth posting a WIP thread, make look like tf2, not make my dog barf when he sees it. Anyway, this is a mix of criticism and dire hate for fun maps.

It already looks better than those screens. But it's on hold for now.
