This is a Territorial Control map set in a forested Alpine valley. The name refers to both the idyllic setting and the renewable energy plants that the control points are based in and around.

This is my first TF2 map, and yeah, I know TC isn't the best gametype to start out with, but this is about the 3rd attempt at making this I've had, so I'm not THAT nooby. :p The screenshots show one of the territories - the wind farm - which is the only one I've constructed so far. There will also be a solar plant, a water wheel, and a research center by a waterfall, which fits in (kinda) even though it isn't an energy source like the others.

I'm aiming to solve the issues with Hydro with this map - namely, the tight corridors which often lead straight into a huge, open area which is easily defendable, which cause the much-hated stalemates. To combat this I'm trying to give each area lots of options for attack, although my main aim at the moment is to actually finish the map.

I realize that at this stage making a post about a map isn't that useful, but I suppose I'm doing this partially to motivate myself to finish this. Although there isn't really much to critique, I'd appreciate opinions on the appearance of the map so far, and suggestions on how to ensure it doesn't have the same problems that Hydro does.

Thanks!

NB: it's probably obvious, but this map isn't finished. At all. I'm going to redo the wind turbines, sort out that awkward shadow at the bottom of the cliff, add lighting to the building and everything else. Don't bother telling me that the map isn't finished, I already know! :)

This is already better than most people's first maps end up being. I do like TC and judging from the screenshots and your aims for the map I'd say you have something good, so I wish you good luck!

If you don't know about it already, I can only imagine that the TF2maps [ame="http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=4674"]Gametype Library[/ame] would make things at least a little easier for you concerning the complex gametype that is Territorial Control. I really couldn't imagine setting it up without it.

Well, there's already that map tc_atlantic which is alpine, but I've never been able to play a match on it in a server that had actual people in it.

Ah, fixing TC would be awesome! I love how varied Hydro is, so fixing its problems will be good. Keep at it, looking nice!

hehe, like mine? (mirror_industry if ur interested... don't look, its unbarable:blushing:!)

Anyway, enough self doubt. This looks very promising, I LOVE tc (although the hydro stalemates are very agrovating) so I'm supporting you all the way, and can't wait to play!

Heh, I was actually thinking of a theme like this (with wind turbines and stuff), but I ended up dropping it because I couldn't make any wind turbines. :p

This looks promsing - TC is a good mode, I hope you can pull it off well.

I'm VERY excited to see someone else attempting TC, and someone fresh and new doing it is even better. Several attempts made at TC have all run into problems reminiscent of Hydro or were just plain unable to escape the tunnel-syndrome Hydro experiences. From the looks of your map and the theme as it has been developed so far, this map will turn out to be fantastic if you just push through and finish it! ^_^
