Feeling up to some insane gaming? How does TF2 at 150% speed sound? If this tickles your fancy show up and buckle down your brain.

This is an experimental event I'll be hosting, in which we play TF2 at non-standard speeds via host_timescale. We'll be starting off at 150% and see how it goes from there, with the possibility of slowly ramping up the speeds based on player opinion. I might even occasionally drop in a sudden slow-mo period without much warning. ;)

As the timescale increases so does the amount data being thrown around. This can and will effect ping times, scaling in relation to your normal ping. Euro players be advised.

Maps played will be determined as we play, and I'll probably run the event for at least an hour or two, depends how well it all goes over.
If you have any suggestions ahead of time for maps you think would work better than others at high speed feel free to drop them here.

Oh, I forgot to mention. No stats/achievements will be counted during this event due to cheats being enabled.

Some people think they can outrun me... maybe... maybe....
I've yet to meet anyone who can outrun bullets, bloody pikers.

btw. sniping at increased speed is 'interesting', I'll see you guys there.

Glad to see you posted this. Was on the server when you tested this. I'll try to be there... this is going to be interesting.

Btw. Running heavies are fun. ;)

I was under the impression that host_timescale didn't actually affect the player's speed.

host_timescale effects absolutely every aspect of the game. The timer counts down faster. Players run faster. Weapons reload faster. You change weapons faster. Projectiles fly faster. About the only thing that's the same is the sounds, because they are played locally on the client and they don't have any code for adjusting the rate at which they play.

DJ: You should've saved that to post after then event :p When everyone has had so much fun they want to get up and do that.

This will be fun. It's also amazing what it can do for you, we played at high speed for a short while and I was demo, when we went back to normal speed it seemed like it was slow motion and I was getting direct hits on scouts with nades, which I've never done before.

I will be there. I've always wanted to play TF2 with some crazy host_timescale settings!

Additional plan: The event will be brought to a conclusion by playing arena, in which we raise the timescale by 10% every round until we crash the server! Such fun to be had.

Won't somebody come in and do "ent_kill worldspawn" because the "speed-effect" in host_timescale requires cheats?

I also like with host_timescale that if you do like host_timescale 0.7 without sv_cheats, it reduces the ping by around 25% on my server :D

I am disappointed you think I wouldn't think of such a thing! I went out and found a plugin that blocks all cheats commands incoming from clients, so that I can turn them on and change locked server settings without ruckus.

Gah, if this wasn't so early (2:30 PM) I'd certainly be there. But, as with most of the gamedays, I have work to do and probably cannot make it.

Well it was a great success. Everyone seemed to love it.

Unfortunately in the end the server was uncrashable :p it was... "playable" up to around 500% speed. but then I just started cranking it up to see how high it would go. 5,000% we could still jolt around, with maxed out pings for everyone, but jumping to 6,000% locked up the server, though it didn't crash.

I'll certainly be hosting this again in the future!

It was insane.
Sniping in those conditions are probably the toughest challange I've ever had in tf2. Getting backstabbed and set on fire every 20 seconds was not all that great either, but the breif moments of slowmotion where I could hit 3 headshots in a row were enough to keep me going :p

The last arena map... hmmm, there are no words. If possible I want to see the sourceTV demo from that. I realise it will be played back in normal speed, but I just want to see how retardedly everyone played at 500%+ speed :p

Wish I coulda made it! Trying to work at 150% speed just isn't the same...

Maybe next time you could show some love for the employed? :p

I just discovered that the host_timescale changes do in fact work in the STV demos, so I'll be getting those uploaded for anyone that wants to watch or make a video. :)
