I don't think Halo and anime are in the same category to be honest.

Anime people where I live tend to be emos or Nintendo fans, whereas Halo is typically played by casual gamers.

WoW is generally played by people who aren't gaming experienced enough to hate WoW, but want to be different enough to hate Halo.

I need to be up on the high school demographics so I can make fun of every single one of them.

That may be a problem as well. Being that im older *27* and started gaming young around 7 or 8 i have played .. to say the least more then a few games.

HALO/WOW/SSB:B is many players first games so have nothing to base it off of.

They don't have to learn a game day adays, its all jump right in and play.

they don't know about content, pvp, or community before they played WoW.
They dont know about aiming, or repercussion for being hit before halo.
they don't know about 8+ button combo's and counter styles before SSB:B

pity.

That I understand. Halo, WoW and SSB I don't like either (though I know reasonable people who play SSB competitively).
But... I'm sure I don't know anyone who watches anime and plays any of these. I personally can't see any connection, I'm sorry =P

Most are lol. But you cant prove me wrong, the standards of people have dropped so far =(

HALO has an interesting story but is a shitty EZ-Mode FPS dumbed down to console users.
Anime isn't my thing, never has been and is always linked to both halo and ssb:b/wow
SSB;B is a spamfest smash button simplistic game that rewards new players to older experienced players. IE making it simple for children.
WoW changed the MMO genre.. more for the worst, making it WAY to casual and easy for kids to play, hence changing and ruining most all mmo's after that because WoW brought in a crowd that expects "easy"

You can not agree with my statement, but counter it, instead of getting offended.

Generalizing isn't a good thing. Also, I haven't met any anime fan that likes Halo (they simply don't use to say if they like it or not).

Another thing, when people talks about anime they think in Pokemon,Naruto, Sailor Moon, and all that kind of crap. That's like saying all movie films are similar to Garbage Day and Troll 2, there is serious anime too that isn't related to magic, pikachus and of course, Halo

I dont see why people are arguing over this. Obviously for some people, this is just stupid and can't but flame and generalize people for liking or might find entertainment out of this Halo/Anime combination. If you don't you like it then don't like it, no one is asking for you to like it and just talking about it is just making you look stupid because your generalizing and stereotyping a demographic that your not even that familiar with because your not part of it and dont like it. Everyone has a different POV on the subject so why ruin it for the people who want to give this a try and see how it turns out? Im not saying dont voice your opinion but dont give stupid reasons to why this is a bad thing. Personally I could see this whole thing flop but I am keeping my hopes up because of the great studios being used to make it (i.e. Production I.G., Bones, etc.) Not to mention some of the best anime directors are taking part in this. I like anime and Halo, and Im not a fat, lonely, Nintendo fanboy who watches Pokemon and thinks WoW MMO is the greatest game in existent. So shutup about this >_<

I agree and that's a sad fact. When people talk about FPS's people think halo... when people talk about MMORPG's... people think WoW... see what im getting at? this is why i get so upset. Like you said when people say they HATE ANIME OMG!!11 they don't think of any good anime, they think of DBZ, pokimon and Naturo.

These shitty games/shows who have singly changed/ruined the genre and have now since became the "face" of them.

I never once targeted anyone, so please don't target me. I'm sorry you don't agree with my reasoning's, care to explain why instead of writing them off as stupid? Like all online forums, debate is fun, keep it civil =)

Like i said, i highly doubt the movie will flop, i know it will bring in MUCH more money then it should though because it simply has the "warcraft" name tacked on it, its no different then a "B" movie that has Jason Statham or Megan Fox.. people will go regardless.

lol i wasnt trying targeting anyone either and im sorry if I came off that way (it was a rant:crying:), and I agree debates are awesome as long as caps don't start being used.
While that was just a rant, I just dont see how you can debate over this. Since there isnt a wrong or right. Its just you will either care for it, not care for it, or hate it and not understand why people like this because you find halo or anime to really dumb. You cant really debate over what someone feels about Halo or Anime... This is as silly as a who's better debate, Samus or Master Chief? debate. Maybe its just the title that makes me angry idk.

Hmm... Halo (in fact, most FPS franchises) + Anime (this is specific: TF2 could get away with "cartoon" fairly easily)= :glare:

I'm not going to diss either of the component parts (no real point, I don't know much about either), but it's really something that I didn't see coming, and frankly, I don't think it will be any good. We'll see.

For the record, SSBM > SSBB in my opinion (although it's a bit like arguing UT1/UT99/whatever you want to call the original Unreal Tournament > UT2004, or TFC > TF2. You probably played the former more). And I wouldn't be surprised that if you said "fighting game", the majority of first reactions will still be "Street Fighter" and not "Super Smash Bros"

I really can't give a decent opinion of halo, other then its a console fps...something that shouldn't exist due to shitty control
I still don't understand what you despise about smash bros so much, it is not a fighting game like something in the mortal kombat area would be, its intended as a party game, and why would a person ever expect complexity in a party game. Oh and go ahead and find a new player that consistently beats someone with over 400 hours in all 3 generations of the game, Ive yet to see it happen.
What exactly came before WoW that was so damn impressive? I was under the distinct impression that any grinding based rpg that you pay monthly fees for was automatically garbage.

but most people who like anime seem to enjoy halo, ssb:b, and wow.

the reason i pick those 3 is they are the front runners for 3 different genre's and each have lowered the standards to each genre.

halo/ssb:b/wow i can.

I don't know a single person that likes halo, smash bros, and wow.
I know 1 person that likes wow.
I know alot of people that like smash bros.
And I honestly don't know anyone that likes halo <_<
this is all taken from a real life perspective, so im not taking into account people I know online

once again, console fps games never had standards, I serious doubt mmos did, and I don't think you have brawl classified correctly.

they don't know about 8+ button combo's and counter styles before SSB:B

pity.

:facepalm
why anyone ever thought this was a good feature in a completely baffles me

Ill take my reflexes, timing and random bullshit luck over memorizing random and pointless button combos thank you very much.

This is completely true, although halo is fading as the most recognized fps, and I should point out that when you say fighting game, not a single person thinks of smash bros.

Sounds like you don't play fighting games much, ie the Soul Calibur/Street Fighter variety.

I know I'm a PC gamer, and I should renew my cool-card by bitching about console games, but I can't bring myself to. I guess I like fun too much.

Seriously though, bitching about console games is as bad as the kids bitching about Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo in their little "console war."

Quake 3 Arena on dreamcast was an amazing FPS with controller. SoF on Xbox was an amazing FPS with controller.
I dont mind the controller console part, i do mind that halo is a watered down EZ-MODE bullshit fps, with an "ok" story that if you want *and i have* you can run through about the whole damn game without ever really needing to kill anything at all.

What exactly came before WoW that was so damn impressive? I was under the distinct impression that any grinding based rpg that you pay monthly fees for was automatically garbage.

To many games lol. DAoC was an amazing mmorpg, UO was great, AO was damn decent, EQ 1 was very good.

Eh, its a server you pay for, a website, a subscription, a game, a service.. all the same, its what you get enjoyment out of. MMORPG give you a ton of content for the money you pay and support *we hope support*

Maybe that's where i got it wrong, i do put SSB:B as a fighting game and not a party game and i think that's why i get so upset by it. I shouldn't be able to take my controller and rub it on my face, the couch the dog and have a chance at winning, but as a party game i guess it would be good to have the ability to have never played and stand a chance.

I would like to go on record as saying that I like anime  But I'm old-school, and enjoy the good stuff. In no particular order: Cowboy Bebop, Fantasy Star Universe, Full Metal Alchemist, Record of the Lotus War, etc. Crap like Gundam is what gives anime a bad rep.

whoa whoa whoa I like my Gundams, sure im partly saying that because im a mecha fan but that doesn't mean trash the Gundams. Gundam helped evolve the industry and some of them have really great plots/storys. But ya I agree fma, Lotus Wars are great. (didnt care for CB :| )

meh, I played soul calibur 2 a bit, and some of the early sega genesis mortal kombats, and no, I really don't find them too terribly entertaining. Primarily because the button combos played a larger part then any kind of blocking/ counter/ timing.

And I stand by this, unless you take a mouse and somehow physically attach it to the console and make it work, fps don't belong on consoles. Trying to aim with an analog stick is just horrendous.

But why? Why do you think these games were so much better? In terms of mmos I don't really see how one can be so significantly different then another.

DoA was a really good game as well and old Virtue Fighter.

It is Horrendous and they are at a disadvantage however it "is" playable.. just not to the full efficient effect..

Thats silly, its like saying all games of any genre are the same. MMORPG's imo have he best chance out of any genre's to be uniquely different. Different lores, story, characters, abilitys, weapons, worlds, etc etc.

Ah, Community, difficulty, reward.

I played DAoC for about 3-4 years. games before WoW it took a LONG time to level up, leaving you to have to perfect your class and you know hundreds of people by the time you hit max level, so what this did is set you up for PvP or raiding. You've spent SOOO much time leveling that you knew your class in and out, and you needed to group so you know most peoples play styles which made PuB groups.. *gasp* fun and skilled.

WoW changed that with rested EXP *exp you gain while OFFLINE* and simple leveling and removal of a need to group or learn your class.

Before WoW or HALO there was way more "community" feel to gaming, people were friendly and fun. Players were skilled and looked forward to new players for the most part.

Now in both those genre's i feel completely lacks that. The word itself is lost. We are completely lucky with what we have at TF2Maps.net and the members that it has to have a community but before TF2 and this site, when was the last time "you've" *everyone reading* have felt "part" of something more then just log on play/kill log off bleeeeeh.

That's were my hate comes from, because personally i love building and being involved into a community and to me, i honestly feel that WoW and HALO took that away from people.

interesting...id always wondered why people enjoyed mmos...but you've painted an interesting picture, though refering to WoW leveling as "slow" kinda scares me...the grinding thing is something that has really burnt me out on rpgs recently

though I disagree that community has been lost in gaming, all it really takes is a little effort, like the first online fps i played was metroid prime hunters, nintendo honestly did all they could to discourage community, you needed to enter a 12 digit number to play with anyone you knew online, even then you could only talk to the people in a game that you already had added, and you could only talk in the time before the game started. Even so, through the use of several websites there was still a large community for the game.

I mean to say WoW leveling is very quick and very easy. IE dumbed down.

What i mean is now players are rude, ignorant, unskilled and are content being so. They've used to want to get better, they used to enjoy bullshiting in servers for a few hours. now its all connect, kill, log off, flame someone on a forum, sleep, repeat.
