The Smuggler
A Team Fortress 2 Capture the Flag map with a center control point. Owning the control point grants your team access to the mining cart train that moves in between the 2 base’s dock. The dock has doors in different parts of the base which are also restricted to point owners. It tough to find a safe way to the control point and it’s hard to defend, but the control point is vital to your success. Good luck.

Ok, here's the truth about this map.

This is my first map (big surprise eh?) and it has a lot of issues, especially visually. If it works out I'll be going around and making everything look better, rounding certain corners and adding detail, etc etc. But I really don't know whether it's worth doing that or not. While I learned a lot making it, I know I did a bunch of things the wrong way from the start and some of that probably can't easily be fixed.

But if the map is fun like I think it would be, I think it's be worth polishing it up. But certain things about it make me wonder if it would work at all - like the train itself. I really have no idea how it will act with 30 people on the map over the internet. It already gives some errors when you get run over by it. I read Steam didn't put any elevators in TF2 because of net code not working great with func_tracktrain.

Anyway, if I were to totally scrap this map and start over - the 200+ hours I worked on it would not be wasted at all because I learned a lot - everything I really wanted to know and I got some skills along the way. This map served it's purpose even if it never gets played. But if it's worth fixing, I'll do it.

Just not sure how to get it beta-tested. It doesn't seem to be getting a lot of downloads. I'm not really sure what to do right now, except maybe just go ahead and start on something new - do it right way from the start, and as far as smuggler, just wait and see if people play it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Should I put anymore time into this? Is is possible to get it on a few servers somewhere to see if it works? I think it looks a lot better than some of the maps some of the servers are playing.

thanks

oddly enough the map im working on right now is laid out almost exactly the same as this except the tracks run longways by the bases instead of to and from

it runs into and through the building on the right side (in the view of your red base, first screenshot)

but i must say you did a very good job!

if you're ready to test it you should join us in the tf2mappers steam chat group, we run beta maps usually every few days

the transformation you have made from the original screenshots are huge, those blocks with holes in them now looks like proper buildings, really starting to look good congrats
