and some other things... I said in my intro that I was working on creating prefabs and props for a HUGELY MASSIVE...fairly accurate, replica of alcatraz with some additional bonuses thrown in. This project is obviously too big for me. Any help and thoughts are appreciated. I was able to finish (with no details) one building last night and plan on making the dock for the ferry/destroyer(blu) tonight.

I'll put some pics up soon!:)

after doing some more research and sifting through hundreds of photos I have discovered that I need to spend a little more time on my first building. It is not an impressive building...the little one that sits on the dock...perhaps a garage? That being said there is little reference of it. Found a couple of photos that might help. sig...I'll get some pics up tonight...the dock will have to wait.

Well I don't know what its reference looks like, but those screenshots look pretty nice - in the map are players going to be able to go inside this building?

Thanks! yeah, the players can enter the building but it will be more eye candy of the rest of the layout. I don't have the image now but this is one of the smallest building on Alcatraz...just on the dock as you arrive. The map size has so many possibilities but it will take probably a year plus to just create all the buildings. I have started on the dock but I have to find more reference images first. exciting!

Okay, i made some good progress on the dock layout. Decided to make my own instead of replicating the one on alcatraz to keep it in the spirit of the red team.

The question I have is whether I should make the SF bay dry or acually have water... the issue arose when I thought about the skybox. How would I make a creative one for an island without extending the water for miles? This issue has made me think of a clever back story...more to come! any thoughts?

For some buildings that aren't gameplay necessary, you should try making models. It would be easier on the engine and they could possibly look more detailed and realistic.

thanks! I guess what I meant to say was that the building isn't necesarily mission critical...like the shacks used in play in cp_dustbowl.

I am still racking my brain trying to figure out the skybox. I think that I am going with an invisible fence line past some sets of bouys...maybe?

I suggest a landscape of San Francisco, with a skybox model of the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance for realism.

Joodude: that sounds great! I am sure there are pleanty of images of the bay that I can splice a decent pano. I think I will stick with the water in the bay and was planning on making the ship at the dock a submarine fur Blu team.

Unfortunately, I have no updates. Last night was a wash. I started extending the map and failed to put in any brushes to break up the large empty space on the dock. there is a 1300 by 1600 space that has nothing in it. will adding a few props be enough to break up the space? ideas? help? Otherwise, last night I was limited to creating custom benches, kiosks, large boat tie-downs and picnic tables.

This raises another question... what is the best way to create these custom "props" in hammer editor or elsewhere...and should I be adding hints to them so the create portals all over a simple park bench?
