This is an arena map created by a friend of mine; it is his first map. Since he does not own TF2, he built it in the Portal version of Hammer. I assisted him in retexturing it with TF2 textures (I apologize if you find a stray HL2 texture) and making sure it was playable. Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

i think a proper castle theme could work with the available textures. but add some lights so the system doesnt compile full bright. experiment with some lights and see what comes up. great start tho.

Custom lighting has been added and it seems to have turned out pretty well. Comments on the new version are welcome.

I'm sorry, only judging from the screenshot here, but make sure to buildcubemaps for the next playable version. It might just be me but I don't like seeing the pink/black texture =P

Somehow the whole premise of someone who does not own TF2 making a TF2 map seems awkward though. What did he base the design on?

I had not done buildcubemaps yet because I was focusing on making sure all the textures were replaced and looking fine before dealing with cubemaps. This will be done by a5.1.

Somehow the whole premise of someone who does not own TF2 making a TF2 map seems awkward though. What did he base the design on?
I was surprised myself when he told me he had made a TF2 map and even more surprised when it actually looked like it would make a good arena map (he had almost no knowledge of the game modes). I do not know what exactly he based his design on, but he did seem to be focusing on making sure each class has a part of the map where they had the advantage (towers to rocket-jump to, well-placed sniper windows, platforms where demomen could fire grenades to the bridge, corners for spies to hide in, etc.).

looks like witht he same texture on all the walls, going somewhere could be a little confusing.

There are already two maps with this name.. :p
My friend was not aware of this at the time when he made the map. I can ask him to change the name if you would like.
If you don't like the stone wall, you could always use this custom one:

I try not to use custom textures/models unless absolutely necessary (less stuff for the player to download), but thank you for the suggestion.

It was before, but it is fine now with the new lighting. If you still find it confusing with the new lighting, I can try changing some textures around.
