After you read this article come back here and read the rest of this forum post....

...okay so now you read it. I was reading that yesterday And I started remembering games that the Killswitch had flipped on for me. And then I started thinking that maybe you all had some killswitch experiences too. Basically the goal of this thread is to mention times that you might have experianced the "Killswitch" with games you've played. So I'll start

LEFT 4 DEAD :

Yup, I felt exactly the same as in the article. It just got old and I felt like it was some sort of deja vu crap. Sure the game was good but I got bored real fast with everything.

ROLLER COSTER TYCOON (whole series):

A long time ago (back when I was a kid) I bought a game called [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Rollercoaster-Tycoon-Deluxe-Jewel-Case-Pc/dp/B0008G1NEI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1247852342&sr=8-2"]roller coaster tycoon[/ame] for some reason that I don't remember I had been thrilled with the whole idea of playing this game. and after playing only 3 levels for a total of 2 (very spread out) weeks, I decided to buy the rest of the series (expansion packs and sequals). The killswitch came in the middle of playing the third game, I had decided to skip past the first two games after I saw the graphical improvements in the third game. Anyways I was having a great time building and hiring slaves...I mean employees to work at the amusement part. When out of the blue I looked at the top of the screen and I found that I was out of money. I got upset! This was unfair! I slammed down my mouse!!! What was the point of playing a game where I had to work hard to manage everything, when that's what I'd have to do in real life?!!! I still have the entire game series today and I've never touched it since the Killswitch flipped for that game.

...okay now you get the idea of how this thing will work. Your story can be any length, just so long as it doesn't go into mindless shit. have fun! :woot:

Man, I loved Rollercoaster Tycoon. Granted I didn't complete the first game but I did this, and it was awesome.

Definitely great to see a bunch of satisfied customers enjoy their ride.

My killswitch also went with L4D. I was one of the guys who preordered the game, played it like mad at the start, and then eventually found the game to be boring even with real friends to play with. It's still in my computer but I find less and less reason to play again every time I stare at Steam's game list.

I love 2D fighting games but I had a killswitch with the Guilty Gear series, people keep on saying it's deep and technical with fast-paced action and such, and I never caught on to it. I did get the game, gave it a try and practiced, and realized I'm too old for this. And when I played, after the 4th or 5th CPU opponent it made me want to sleep.

The original two Rollercoaster Tycoon games made my childhood. The third one was utter crap with its new age music and "peeps" and inability for them to die in rollercoaster crashes/drown.

Don't have any images on hand except...this. :p

I outta make a thread for Roller Coaster Tycoon, considering the response I got to a thread that had nothing to do with it.

Common event. Sometimes it's inevitable, sometimes it's not. There's games I've bought and installed but never played. Why? Because I bought other games at the same time and played those. And when I got tired of those I never went to the other ones. Or the other ones required the CD in the drive, which meant constant flipping back and forth.

World of Warcraft, I stopped about the point that I realized I had in excess of forty quests that were all 'cross to the other continent, dodge the high level enemies, fight the low level ones, and wait til you gather X pieces of Y.' I couldn't do anything else either- my crafts had been maxed out, I was almost bankrupt, and I had no way of continuing without venturing through miles of dismal terrain filled with monsters that were too tough for me.

EVE Online, I quit once I realized that I was sitting at the computer with my Introduction to Business textbook open in my lap, taking part in a company meeting on how we could improve our quarterly earnings on ore futures. At that point I realized that 'a real player driven economy' was not necessarily a feature.

Warhammer Online I quit when I realized I'd achieved my big goals. I'd gotten everything I'd need to be a great alchemist. I could grow any plant, at any skill level, and make any potion I wanted. I had no real interest in fighting. It was just... dull. Continue to fight over forts and points, trying to get enough reknown to get the best gear, then to get to a level high enough to use that gear, then get to a level high enough to move on to the next area to do it all again. Didn't seem like fun. In the slightest.

This happens with me on every fighting game I buy.

Dead or Alive 4 - really enjoyed it for a month or so, but never touched it after realizing how uber-core the difficulty was.

Smash Bros. Brawl - played it maniacally for 2 months, then suddenly couldn't stand a single round.

Soul Calibur 4 - had the biggest hard-on for this game leading up to the release date, but put it down after a month or two (actually, I just went back to this game again, so maybe it still has life left in it?)
