I can recommend a Mac to everyone who just uses his computer for basic tasks such as browsing the internet, managing photo's, editing video and word processing. Apple does most things in that category very well compared to Windows. Those things are what most people do with their computer anyway, so it's actually quite surprising that still very little people are using a Mac.
I'd use Mac OS next to Windows every day if I could run it on my own hardware of choice. But the hardware Apple offers is probably also the reason why Macs are so stable. Mac OS only has support for the hardware Apple chooses, whereas Microsoft offers support for a large variety of types and combinations of motherboards, processors, graphics- and audio-cards causing Windows systems to be potentially more unstable.
I like Mac OS X just as much as I love Windows, except for some GUI buttons and shortcuts. However, I simply can't run it because I don't feel like buying one when can build a similar Windows PC myself for half the price. (and yes, I tried to run a Hackintosh)
