Gameplay models as in player models, sentries, teles, dispensers, and flags. Many mappers do this, personally I think it shouldn't be done. In my opinion, it just looks bad and can cause confusion

I used a red toolbox in Hoover. One tester thought it was metal. But I was trying to make it seem like red was doing maintenance and that and the welder are the only 2 props I could find along those lines.
Nobody else ever mentioned it as far as I can tell.
I know there were sentry 'mock-ups' in Cumulus that caused alot of debate, but that wasn't a final release thing.
Other than that I haven't seen those things used. Well, Grimgriz had some giant skybox spy/engies, but hard to confuse with a player.
I could see maybe a box of teles, on their sides or something like they are being manufactured or shipped. But if any of those props are used in a way that they look like part of gameplay it would be bad imo.
It depends on what context thier used in. if thier in the spawn as decorations sure fune, but dont place them in key combat areas they tend to confuse people. Its the same reason people use the sniper, spy sprays to confuse people just long enough.
Models with gameplay purpose also tend to be much more detailed than ones intended for prop use, and thus more expensive. I was surprised how much a small healthkit impacted the render budget in my level compared to the four radioactive waste drums around it.
In certain cases it can be done. Often with the intel as in CP maps. player created stuff however never should be with the exeption with a toolbox or cetain weapons behind glass (unreachable areas). Any other situation often is bad.
None! At least not in a playable area. It really annoys me when I find a toolbox that I can't pick up. There's more to mapping than just to make it look good.
Yeah, if there is any ambiguity, it's bad. Personally, I think they shouldn't be used at all. Sure, there might be some creative uses outside the playable area that work well.
