If I have an areaportal in a doorway, I don't need to have a skip/hint brush there also do I? The areaportal will tell vis to create a new leaf right?

As far as I know areaportals don't split visleafs so you would still need to have a hint brush there.

Thanks. I thought they did split the leaves. I don't ever see any hint/skip brushes where there is also an areaportal on official valve maps. I just wanted to be sure.

Do you guys still place hint/skips in walls where there is a window model (that doesn't feature glass built by a world brush, basically nothing on the other side of the wall, a window model to only be viewed from one side)? You can't have the wall solid where the window model goes because it needs to stick inside the wall somewhat and you can see the wall sticking through part of the window if you don't do that. So I have made my wall a little thinner right where the window model fits but I don't want a new leaf there (since that part of the wall is thinner then the rest, there will be edges) so I have been placing a hint brush to fill that gap so vis will see the wall as one smooth surface.

It may or may not help. It depends on VVIS' mood at the time and the basically "random" order that leaves get determined in.

But in a case like that, it's hardly relevant since there is no hallway/room beyond.
