Game servers laggy?

The TF2Maps servers are quite different from other server, at least in my case. They are the only servers where I have between 5 and 15 fps most of the time (5 when in combat, 15 when staring at walls), regardless of my connection (which is decent), optimisation (happened on all maps we've played) and graphics settings.

Every gameday for about a week (that makes it, ohh, 4 or 5 gamedays), TF2 suddenly hits a bump and becomes unplayable due to the previously mentioned 5-15 fps.

I've played on a bunch of other servers which all gave me 80-100 ping (TF2Maps' EU server gives me 30, US gives me 150), and it worked fine there. I got bucketloads of fps, so to speak. Which leads me to wonder if there could be anything wrong with the TF2Maps servers, aaand that's the reason I'm posting it at the front desk.

Has anyone else experienced it? It would help a lot to know this.

i havent experienced this before. your fps are a seperate issue when it comes to the game server. if your ping was high, id see the connection. but fps, ive never heard of.

So you're saying server issues can't cause bad fps? :/

The ping was normal, so I have no idea what else it could be.

It could be the maps, which in turn means your computer.

Try playing on a valve map and check out your fps.

Not the maps' fault. The last map it happened on before I said screw this and left, was tc_meridian_rc.

Try playing on a valve map and check out your fps.

In other words, I did test on other servers, and they were playing Valve maps by the way.

I noticed that a bit today. Was running fine for the first five or six maps, but after a while it started to chug.

I wonder if the last update added a memory leak?

they might need a restart. but i dont see how it could affect your fps and not your ping.

I've found I get all but disconnected by the EU server. So, yeah, it might be time to give them a restart.

Personnally, I didn't notice anything wrong with sunday's gameday, or saturday for what little time I could play...

Ok, this is no longer an issue with the TF2Maps servers, because it just happened to me on another server. Apparently it's my computer instead (although it seems to happen constantly on the TF2Maps servers and not so much on others, which is still odd).

This problem seems to come in waves, as it has happened to me many times before until it suddenly disappears one day. It's as baffling as ever, with no apparent solution.

(Feel free to move this)

ive noticed on my computer also that my system will struggle with some maps, *some* days, and others it plays flawlessly. it could be caused by overheating. im going to clean out my case and try and add a fan or two and see how it goes.

Hmm, too bad mine is a laptop (gaming laptop, mind you), so I can't really do that.

It DOES get hot, though, but I recently bought a table fan... maybe that can help keep my PC from overheating, if that is the problem.
