If I remember correctly, they're in: steamapps\<steam_id>\sourcesdk_content\tf\mapsrc

If they don't show up there, make sure you refresh the SDK Content.

not as something you can edit and release ;)
I think valve is asking people to do that (o noes). Not directly but as they want to see the changes i think they want people to release them (prepare for lots of map edit trash on fpsb).
For the beginner map makers out there, we hope this gives you an easier entry point by allowing you to alter or edit an existing map, as opposed to being forced to start from scratch. For example, you could start by fine-tuning cover in Goldrush, alter the layout of Granary, or tweak the amount of health and ammo in Gravelpit. Or maybe you just have a ton of ideas on how you think you could improve Hydro or 2Fort. We'd love to see what you come up with.

wow, i hereby nominate this the worst idea ever
don´t you feel no shame, don´t you feel dirty?
i smell the downfall of custom maps after a flood of uninspired altered valve maps

look at db_heights or pl_dustbowl.... both play way worse then original dustbowl and they also look shitty, like somebody took a perfect cake and punched holes into it to see what the filling is....

if you try to alter valve maps..... i order you to step away from hammer until you come up with your own ideas.

relax, it's just a little joke. Not a full scale release or anything ;)

I'm just doing the first stage to have fun late at night

:O I don't want to be flaming or fighting or anything, and i totally understand eerieone's point. dbheights is a terribly annoying map. I just wanted it to be clear it's not a bad idea ;)

I never utilized any of the other map sources that Valve has released for their past games, but I actually found it useful to open up 2Fort last night and look at it to see how Valve did some things.

That's the way that source files should be used - that or slightly alter the map to a different game mode, like someone took 2Fort and made a decent arena map out of it.

Then you got the people that shouldn't be looking into the source files, and wasting other places space and peoples bandwidths.

Like there's a huge contrast between the following two maps that utilized the sources.

Arena_2Fort

2Fort...time sunrise....

The second is a complete waste of space and should have been left on the users hard disc for his own personal amusement.

I still fail to see how either of those contribute to the wealth of custom content.

While the 2Fort arena map may not be much of anything new...at least it does bring a familiar map that everyone enjoys over to a new game mode.

Other than that, if you're just not really into arena that much - then yeah, it's a worthless contribution.

RE my earlier post:
I meant it in the way of mass public release. Run it on your own server, give it to your friends... sure, go for it!
But cluttering the interwebbys with edited maps....
