Only read over part of it. Sounds like a standard feral child case (thats as far as I got). Sociologists/Psychologists love those, because of all they tell us about the human animal, as opposed to the rational, social, conditioned being we usually encounter.

The last feral child case like this was in the 70's.

She wasn't in the wild or anything, she was ditched in the closet of her mother's shitty home and offered nothing but standard childcare. For 7 years.

I know Void, I did read the first couple of sections. I've read about feral children that were basically abused by parents into being so (locked in a dark room all alone their whole lives, food slid under the door, etc). Hell, I might even had read about this one. Like I said, some of the social science really love it when they can get their hands on someone like that (hows that for fucked up?).

I'm usually not one for debating about the outlook on a situation, but when it comes to people "loving" to get their "hands on" a person in a condition like this, it is so that they can investigate, understand, and better help them and people like them in the future.

From what I understand, you're less-than-happy about scientists approaching humans in this state as if they're a completely different species, which is partially true. You can't walk up to a baby and hold an intelligent conversation, because it doesn't know of the outside world. That's what this child is, a big baby. (Not in the sense that the Heavy Weapons Guy would imply, but I'm going to assume you get my point.) Knowledge is the fine line that divides us.

A most interesting and moving read...

I don't think if it qualifies as "the most depressing", but it certainly was very sad.

Its partially to help the child, but more to understand the "human animal," and how much nature/nurture play a role in turning us from babies to what we are today. Its something that social scientists cannot go out into the world and study, like they may do at a mall with surveys and interviews.

Anyways, I'm not mad at social scientists or anything, its just, in a way, pretty screwed up that they love when this happens because of all it teaches us. Sometimes, the price for knowledge is too high.
