I got told a riddle type thing. It's impossible. I wanna see if the bright minds at TF2M can help me figure this one out.

3 People go into a second hand car dealership.
They buy a car, that costs £300, therefor each one of them handing ovre £100.
The salesman goes into the office to get the paperwork, when the manager says "We have reduced that car down to £250."
The salesman puts £20 in his pocket, without the manager knowing.
He then gives each of the people £10 pounds back, which makes up the rest.

Each person has now paid £90 each.
3 x £90 = £270

The salesman has £20, add that on is £290.

Where is the last £10 note?

They didn't pay 90 each.
They each payed 250/3+10 or 93 and 1/3 units.

The last 10 note was part of the 20 that the sales man put in his pocket.

Hmm....

If you divide £250 by 3 you get each person paying £83.33333333333 recurring pounds. So the £10 is actually payed for by the 3 people, who are each paying £6.666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 recurring more than they should.

I think. :s

Nope. He physically gives them each a £10 note back. Therefor they have paid £90 each. £100 - £10 (the £10 they got back each) = £90

Text Diagram Time!

100, 100, 100 -> Saleseman
100, 100, 100 -> Manager
50 -> Salesman
10, 10, 10 -> People (leaving the salesman with 20)

This math leaves us with £250? Yes. It's the multiplication that does something somewhere. Even though they did technically pay £90 each. If they each got £10 back.

each man has paid roughly 83.34 (have to factor in a third of $20 for each of them)
83.34 x 3 (when taking the third as exact) will equal exactly $250 dollars. This also has the $20 the other man stole taken into account, so the total money floating around is $270. Then the 3 men get their $30 back and the total is $300.

When you do 90 x 3 +20 you are not including that the 20 is not tacked on after, it needs to be included in the total cost calculation.

They don't pay pennies though. They are physically given £10 back from their £100. They Each pay 100 - 10. Then take away the 20 the salesman took, it does give 250, it is in the multiplication of the (100-10)*3 that screws everything up. Work with solid numbers, not pence, or .3333 or whatever.

In a town, the barber shaves the men who don't shave themselves, and only the ones who don't. Prove the barber is a woman.

The problem lies with the final sum you came up with:

£270 + £20 = £290

At the end of the changes, the distribution is the following:

- Salesman : £270, of which:
Price of car: £250
Stolen: £20

-Men: £10

Nothing is lost.
The £20 in the sum £270 + £20 = £290 are already part of the the £270.

£270 (of which £20 [stolen] and £250 [car]) + £30 [Men paid back] = £300 [total]

or alternatively:

£300 [total] - £30 [Men paid back] - £20 [Stolen] = £250 [price of car].

TA-DA, hope that made sense.

Spike, the barber must be a woman because they must shave themselves and since they shave all the men who don't, so therfore they aren't a man.

And the barber thing: The barber only shaves men who don't shave themselves, and all of them. If the barber was a man, he couldn't shave himself because then he would shave a man who DOES shave himself, and he also couldn't not shave, because he has to shave all the men who don't shave, therefore the barber can't be a man because that would lead to a paradox.

A hunter is hunting bears. He walks 1 mile south of his tent and finds a bear, but chickens out and runs 1 mile west. He then walks 1 mile North, back to his tent.

What colour is the bear?

The £20 the dealer pockets is the difference between what they paid (£270) and what they SHOULD have paid (£250.)

It is a misleading statement to say it is the difference between £270 and the original £300.
