Too much detail?

Would adding screws and hinges to some areas be too much detail? I would really like to add them because I am pretty picky and I am just like wow I like how that wood is there with nothing holding it in place. But I am afraid that if I do it that it will be wasting my time because it will be completely pointless because no one would even notice the screws and hinges. :(

I wouldn't do that. But what you can do is, create a texture with a normal map with the bolts in. That's the best way at the moment because bolts really eat polygons that you could use somewhere else better than on a wall.

The big rule to keep in mind is that your detail should be spent on the lesser-traveled areas. When it comes to the places where most of the action is happening (like choke-points, control points, and the flag room), the detail should be more sparingly used.

As far as bolts and hinges go, I think Snipergen has the right idea, and normal maps would be the best way to pull off details that small.
