Given the massive scope of the contest (and some other developments that I'll share later), there has been some debate amongst myself and the other officers. So I would like to know what the community thinks. Contest judges still can not win, but what about the TF2M Mods and Admins? The reason that we were the judges last time is b/c it was decided that we couldn't win, so having us judge the competition was just convenient. I personally don't think that having a Blue/Red name is going to affect the popular vote. People vote for a map based on how much fun it is to play. So what do you all think?

a definate yes, they/you put in the same effort into a map and as admin, you should be able to give a clear unbiased vote

And that folks, is why reading comprehension is your friend :p

Well it seems like standard ettiquette to not let mods win prizes but if they're not involved in the jugding process i can't see the harm.

I trust those involved and to be honest there's a trend for the more experienced designer's to get dedicated positions within the community, it would be unfortunate to see mods disuaded or left out because of no prize winning. I know it's not all about the prize but it doesn't seem fair. Especially when they commit so much to the community in the first place. I mean, wasn't it that if a mod in the past won the competition they would recieve the title but the prize would get handed down to the mapper who's level got the next highest amount of votes? I can't remember, but i seem to recall that. It seemed appropriate enough, but i'd like to see mods motivated in the same way as the rest of us.

I can't really say much since i'm impartial on it. I do it for the challenge and to rate myself with my peers. Winning would be fantastic for my ego and i would probably be inclined to allow the prize fall to the next person, if that wasn't offencive.

I make myself out to be such a nobleman don't i?

edit: Maybe you should put another option "impartial" to the list? I dunno, but i'd put that.

The point is, no mods joining the comp should be able to judge ANY MAP. Of course you can win if you didn't participate on the votes. :thumbup1:

I picked no because some the Mods and Admins could get a head start and we would not know it. This is really big problem because in Youme's case he was and still is working on a push ctf before the contest started and could have easily entered into the contest and won because of the massive head start he got. All I am saying is that it could be a big advantage for the people who know what the contest is going to be over the people who do not. It is all about trust, and on the internet telling a bold face lie is a VERY easy thing to do.

I voted yes.

Of course they should be, as long as non staff are judging.

I suppose Youme is gonna be one of the judges though. And the fact that we know he already has started on one would make it hard for him to say he started when the rest of us did.

It is a good point though. Did the admins/mods in question have any idea what the modes would be before it was announced to public. And if so, was it a day or two weeks?
I imagine at most if they did have a heads up it was probably a small amount of time anyway.

I can see a week or two being an unfair advantage but a day or two isn't that big of a deal imo.

Would be better to see more entries than fewer and as stated, alot of admins mods here have experience and we could see some good maps out of them.

Youme isn't participating. Neither are me or Shmitz, which means this only applies to the three admins (ID, DP, DJ) and any future mods that may get appointed during the course of the contest (remember when we asked for applications?).

I knew about that, it is just that some mods may not be as trust worthy as you guys and still go full steam ahead and no one would notice and then they out strip every one else.

I am worried that it would possible in another contest that a mod who knows what the contest is would take advantage of that and start working on the map weeks ahead of everyone else.

TBH that's a fair worry. With this contest after the game types where posted as to what we are going with it was public posted i think within 24-36 hours.

Other contests normally all the same cause lets be honest.. its hard to Keep IM-D quiet about something he is excited about =)
