I don't know what to say.
I'm kinda disappointed at Valve as I thought they would update L4D, but now they're releasing a whole new title, for something which appears to be a weapon and mappack for the original L4D.
I'm not sure I will pay another $50 for L4D2.

nope theres a whole podcast with chet whatsisname from valve and he assured the guy L4D 1 (as they now call it) would continue to be updated. but they wanted to add SO much new stuff into the new one it ceased to be possible with just DLC, especially for the 360. Which being the piece of turd it is, can't handle as much DLC as TF2 has had. so they're moving it into an entirely new game.

I just can't see why they didn't simply make it an expansion pack.

new setting ('down south') so they've added new people, L4D isn't about the people, its about the zombie crisis as a whole, which is what they're expanding on in L4D2 there are non-zombie npcs in this one, the military interact apparently and I think chet said theres some people on people fighting as well as people on zombie.

Edit: also there is SIGNIFICANTLY more in this game than the last, pretty much every feature has been expanded on:
-Director has more tricks up his sleves like weather effects
-Infected are more desperate
-The witch 'roams'
-Shooting limbs off doesnt always kill zombies
-Melee weapons
-CHAINSAWWWWWW *makes noises*
-Multiple routes that change each time you do the campaign
-There IS Vs mode
-New campaigns (more than one, chet himself said) that link together to form a more orderly story (like the last four, but in a more obvious way)
-etc
-etc

Better idea: Scrap the game and make a TF2 Spinoff featuring RED co-operating with BLU to fight zombie hordes.

I'd buy that.

hah i tend to agree but I think this is enough new content to warrant a new game, its probably more than TF2 has got since it's release.... all in one package.

which is a heck of a lot of new

And anyone who would have liked those things in the old campaigns will just have to stuff it?

Even Better Idea: Make a New game for consolegoers, but make it an update for the PC gamer.

But why a whole new game? A stand-alone expansion would be nicer. So the game tastes merely like "L4D v. 1.5".

I hate daylight.
I hate the south.
I hate chainsaws.

I'm calling a bluff and saying this is probably one of the biggest pranks ever. It's going to be a massive expansion for l4d on pc, maybe a whole new game for xbox.

In the case that maybe it IS true, I hope they give a heavy discount for buyers of the first game. It's only been a year since the release and l4d hasn't hit the worth it point for me yet.

Meh

It's a good way for Valve to make money. The console people are gonna jump right on it, it's just not Valve-ish.

This is a very interesting move on VALVe's part. While I refuse to judge anything they do before I try it, as they have yet to fail me, I still can't believe they are willing to split their multiplayer population like this.

Notice that, from the trailer, its day time. Huge departure from the current game.

There goes Youme with that ridiculous ego again (he gets all the girls...). :blushing:

I think part of it is the feeling that the game has been out about 7 months now and we're already looking at a sequel that, while it does seem to include a fair amount of new content, is hardly a 'new' game. Sure, maps, weapons, models, and dialogue are nice, but the core of the game is pretty much the same (with some tweaks to the AI director or witch, etc).

Now think about Ep. 3. If, within a year of releasing one game they can release another that is essentially the same, why not apply that logic to Ep. 3? Ep 2 came out in 2007, so so long as there are not substaintial revisions to the engine/features (like Ep. 2 compared to prior), new models and maps shouldn't take that long. Now you may cite gameplay, but Ep. 1 takes about 1-2 hours to play through, and Ep. 2 not much longer.

Basically: New game = long time, rehashed game with a pretty bow = L4D2.
