in a previous update i believe they renamed a wooden log model, causing custom maps issues.

well today i noticed they've replaced one of the chimney models with one about 2x it's size.
namely: models/props_forest/chimney01.mdl

according to ABS, there's some other ones too.

anyone know who we should email about this? - cos i know i've used at least one of these on maps.

They wont do anything about it because either they have to force us to recompile any maps using it or they have to recompile any maps using it. Its not a simple case of "we left this prop in oops" then putting it back later.

...come on, am i the only one who think it's bad taste for valve to change/replace models like this, and not even tell anyone?

doesn't anyone know who i should email at valve about this?

You could email gabe I guess. If he's in charge he would know who to tell.

But yes, it does seem very odd to me. It's easy enough for them to add a name or even just a _01 to the end of a name so it isn't the same as an old model.
Most likely it was probably a mistake or oversight and probably messed up their maps too, unless they never used it.

They do some things that puzzle me. For a company that has such a huge fanbase and so many people modding their games you'd think they wouldn't do things like that.

They also make alot of models that are too specific. The new stairs from sawmill for example. The supports are uneven so you have to put a rock or something under them, and they have 'scrap' wood on the side that doesn't connect to anything.
Wouldn't it have been better for general use to make all the supports even and just use another model or brush for that floating board?
I know the model probably fits perfectly in sawmill, but it's almost a one use object instead of a universal staircase.
And it's not like it solved something. Hammer could handle rendering a little 32 units of wood behind a displacement or an extra board (brush or model). I really doubt they maxed out in sawmill.

And the spytech railings that are very cool, but they have a right hand bend one and no matching lefthand bend. They should've just made straights and a corner piece, then they could be used for any combination.

Valve seems to hate custom stuff despite the fact that half their games started out as mods. :|

We could always use a bit of support here valve. I mean come on, switching the models on us and not announcing it in the update. Lame. :x

Robin says most of the modelers that worked on the Sniper vs Spy maps are very tall. Shouldn't be too hard to find the culprit. :p

Wtf. I don't see this. Valve and custom content..... is amazing. Besides, it's not exactly the first time Valve have accidently swapped a model or removed one.
