Texture Abnormalities

Hi everyone, I have a question relating with texture alignment.

To place textures, I usually select another block that has the texture I want and right click where I want the texture to go. This works about 99% of the time, but sometimes the textures do not line up. I think it has something to do with the alignment settings in the face edit sheet. Some blocks have world selected, some have face, some have both, and some have neither. How come they randomly change? I never mess with those settings because it usually ruins everything. Any info on how it works, or better ways to texture would be greatly appreciated. :)

Firstly, I would always make the texture face aligned.
Also I found out recently that Alt+RMB works wonderfully at aligning textures to match (i'm not quite sure how it behaves, but say you select a texture on a ramp, and apply it to the side face of the ramp, the texture will be rotated to line up).
This is not 100% though, I have a curved wall (an arch brush) and that had to be aligned manually :bored: . It's not perfect, but I think it looks quite good in-game.

How come they randomly change?

Probably because you have texture lock enabled. It is a nice feature but it's better left disabled by default.
By default, all of your texture should be world aligned (that's what hammer does), though you may want to make them face aligned, especially if you have lots of surfaces not 90° aligned.

Ok, thanks for the help everyone. I will have to try out the Alt+RMB and see how well that works.

Yes, I always have everything no drawed if you can see it.
