So, as a mapper community, what are your thoughts on the three new maps?
I'm personally in love with them. Sawmill is so detailed and filled with new stuff. Those sawblades work great too. It's just postcard-pretty, and is really fun playing too. I haven't got to play the others so much yet, but I like the slick modern architecture on nucleus, in addition to, of course, the doomsday-device.

So what are your thoughts on the new maps? Any favourites, any you can't stand?

First impression: I'm underwhelmed by Pipeline. Maybe it'll grow on me in time. The last stage is just a shooting gallery for snipers. You basically have to suicide over and over to get the cart to move. Kinda expected something more elegant from Valve. I like the look and atmosphere, though

Nucleus and Sawmill both kick ass though. Like, seriously kick ass. Both are very fun maps, and look incredible

Sawmill is first Valve map to "WOW" me. aesthetically it is amazing.
Egypt is the first community map to wow me.

Seriously though..

I ran through sawmill and was like "shit.. i cant top this, might as well stop.

In Pipeline there are many props which aren't player clipped, I could get inside tires and hide there also you can get stuck in 3rd stage door..

personally I just love both the layout and detailing of nucleous and sawmill. They are just perfect, I especially like the waterfall. There's one thing though, can't figure out why you shoudn't be able to walk into the enemy spawn? I mean it's an arena..

About payload race, I don't like the playstyle at all! It's.... not fun and really hard to amke a good map out of. Would be much happier if they would have made a "tug-o-war" map (Icarus pl_waste).

I don't think engies can build there either, probably to avoid engies camping in the spawnhouse as in ravine.

Sawmill was fun and looked great, the best part was the blades and suiciding against them at the end of the round lol. Havent played nucleus yet, but if its anything near as fun as sawmill i might change my mind about arena maps.

I'm sure Valve will be updating all of those maps. Especially sawmill. First impressions of Sawmill are just awesome. But, once you get past the honeymoon stage, you start noticing the flaws. Most of it small details that can be easily fixed, others (especially looking at the decompiled map) are just sloppy, which are causing a lot of the issues players are experiencing.

It'll still be a remarkable map to gain inspiration from though. They just need to iron out the kinks and bring it to a more professional level, which we had expected upon release.

I've found the opposite to be true; it's too easy to lose the advantage by rolling back on the first hill. Also, the second round is a nightmare thanks to that long narrow tunnel and the tracks going right past the enemy spawn.

One thing I have to complain about pipeline is the horrible placement of spawn exits. The end cap is farther ahead of the exits in all 3 stages. When the other teams payload crosses over, not only are you killed right out of spawn, but have no chance of winning because of lack of access to the cart.

The 3rd stage is also a mess. Exits out of spawn are clumsy, and I felt I really never had a chance to do anything other than run helplessly to the cart, lord knowing where my team was. Not to mention that the exits out of spawn are horrible, leading to either a building edge, having to jump off into the water to get to the cart, or go to the bottom, just to be pushed off the walkway inevitably, just getting to the cart.

When my friend switched his map to Nucleus, everyone was simply amazed by it. It's really brilliant; the point as a block to viewing from spawn to spawn, while everything else in the map is aesthetically amazing.

I can't get my tree models to show up in Sawmill though ;_; help plz?

Some of the props in sawmill look interesting, and I've got to go through and see which ones I can use for ghost town. However, first thing I noticed about sawmill...load up the map and then open the console...so much red! /heavy.
