dm_battledome is a open area style map for deathmatch atm. I created this map mostly for my clan to play custom gamemodes on they seem to enjoy it quite alot.

My plan is to have 2 versions of this map one that has cover in the center and maybe a KOTH style of play. and the current version which is just DM.

This looks very good. You should have a arena version with a CP in the middle. Not that its going to make much different from DM since its so open. Great work, love those arcs.

Looking great, the ropes are a bit off though. I think it should be arena.

Played this at game day. I liked it. A few notes I made:

-Very Hectic
-Dark in the spawn rooms
-Sniper friendly (but not too overpowered)

Also, a soldier with the intel rocket jumped up to the upper floor of the arena. He then was protected by many of his team mates while hiding behind one of the sniper fences, making it very hard to assault and steal back the flag. Maybe you could consider making the upper arena area a place where the person holding the intel cannot go, or they will drop it.

Other than that, it was pretty solid and very fun. High paced and actiony.

We were having some glitches with the CTF HUD. When the thirty second timer wore off and your team scored a point, the HUD would still display that you were carrying the flag, even though you weren't. Also, I'm not sure what would happen but the TF2 flag icon that usually floats above the intel would sometimes exist in two separate places at once, with a floating indicator above the ground with nothing under it, and then one above the intel on the ground in a separate location. Not sure what those are from, probably the custom game mode; more specifically the forced reset.

Yea Ill need to see if I can fix those problems.

I dont want to remove the safe area, because lets face it its hard to hold onto the intel for 30 seconds and if you can manage to get over thier and the other team doesnt rush your gold. although I may add some holes in the wall for people to fire through. I cant take the sniper fence out because its preventing snipers from spawn killing. Im also going to add some stuff below to prevent snipers from sittin in the lower spawn and shooting out.

Possibly even adding a elevator from top spawn to bottom.

Its a very team oriented map if your team doesnt assist you your chances go way down.

Another issue im aware of are the bottom doors getting stuck open or showing the animation, but remaining open, not sure whats causing it.

and one spawn where you can drop the flag inside the doors a bit.

I played this map today and I really liked it. There were people on my server that didn't like it but it didn't really have anything to do with the map layout. The layout worked really well for us.

Two issues were constantly complained about.
1.) 10 Caps was way too many. We play four rounds per map on my server and, although most people were having fun, we were done playing after 10 caps. I asked everyone what they thought would be good and they said between 3 and 5 caps. If problem two is fixed and you don't want to change problem 1, I would use a mod to change the cap limit to somewhere in that range.

2.) There is no way to know where the flag is. We have a few of these kinds of maps on the server and all of them have a kind of blur effect that follows the user (in their color) while they run. It's a trail so when you stop running it slowly fades away and eventually, if you are standing still, goes away entirely.

Since no one knew where the flag was and no one knew what team had it, people weren't sure what they should be doing.

Not a single person complained about the layout of the map. People specifically said that they were giving the map a 1-2 rating until some way of knowing where the flag was and who had it was added. Adding the trail would easaly increases the rating to something very good and well liked.

I think more cover in mid and Koth style would be more fun for me personally.
I was just getting constantly overrun by scouts and if I was killing someone someone else would kill me from behind.

Guess I'm not fond of Death matches. Just seems like another type of fun map. Due to the constant respawning, never getting or finding intel and lack of use for most classes just isn't fun during 'regular playtime' which is just when I wanna play TF2. But that's not the maps fault as much as a gamemode thing.

The map itself is pretty cool. It does have a Mad Max feel but still doesn't feel out of place in TF2.

So I give you good marks for design and originality.
